Typo in email address...<BR>I am planning a 10 day trip to Monaco & the Cote d'azur this August. Staying at the Hermitage in Monte-Carlo, La reserve de Beaulieu & the Royal Riviera. If anyone has any hot restaurant/shopping tips, or general info, I'd be appreciative.<BR>

Hi C, I just came back from Monaco the end of April. We hit a few wonderful restaurants - in Fontville, "Amici Miei" (Italian cuisine) and "La Porte" for Chinese in Monaco. Right around the corner from the Monte Carlo Casino, on 2 rue de Iris, we fell in love with the "Il Terrazzino" also Italian. Their food and desserts were to die for and very friendly. One of the best breakfasts was at the "Chocolatier of Monaco" in the old town of Monaco. Their cappucino and croissants - so yummy I can still taste them now as I sit here dreaming - also their chocolate was unlike anything I have ever had. One more Italian restaurant right in the old town, "Freddy's International". Wonderful food and nice menu choices. On a day trip we went to the old town of St. Agnes where I bought quite a few souvenirs. <BR>Happy Traveling!

whatever you do, don't rush around trying to cram it all in. France is meant to be savored slowly. my fondest memories are of 2-3 hour meals... the wine flowed as did the conversation..

To Carole - St Agnes is one of my favourite villages in France! It is so idyllic!<BR><BR>To C: Do not miss Eze for perfume - 2 factories close to each other - you cannot miss them - the scents are heavenly!<BR><BR>Enjoy! Helen

Dear C: We happened into the aquarium in Monaco and were very glad we did. I have been to many and this one was not extremely crowded and had forms of exotic sea life that we had never seen before. So, if you have a rainy day, I would highly suggest the aquarium.

We recently stayed at Le Metropole in Beaulieu - next door to La Reserve. <BR><BR>We really enjoyed the Metropole - and La Reserve is also a top-notch place although we found it perhaps a little too stuffy (maybe self conscious is a better description). <BR><BR>Prices in La Reserve are stratospheric - we eat there one night and had the tasting menu (Euro 130 per person without wine)which was exquisite and well worth sampling once despite the price. <BR><BR>We had drinks in the Royal Riviera which is also a very nice hotel. It is more overtly stylish than the other two places and seems to attract a younger crowd than La Reserve or Le Metropole. It has a nice setting too - right on the bay and there is a private beach area for hotel guests. <BR><BR>One restaurant you should definitely try is Les Agaves in Beaulieu - right opposite the train station (don't be put off by that -it is very pretty) - it was so good we went there twice and it is a lovely room with great food and service.<BR><BR>Do the walking path around Cap Ferrat which begins outside the Royal Riviera. <BR><BR>We went up to Eze village to check out Chateau de la Chevre d'or. In my opinion it was a total tourist trap - the views were nice but if you are tight on time I would give it a miss.<BR><BR>Also, Le Metropole does a wonderful lunch buffet on their terrace overlooking the sea - the food, service and the view are all excellent. I am not sure what the lunch set up is at La Reserve but if you fancy a change of scene on one of the days I would suggest the terrace in Le Metropole. You would need to reserve it and go for a table with an umbrella right at the edge of the terrace by the sea (not one under the awning attached to the side of the hotel).

right down the street from the royal riviera, in the marina, is the african queen restaurant. casualy elegant place to eat pizza and pasta. nice place to go on a rainy day.
