Cote D'Azur
Five "Fifty and Fabulous" women wil be visiting the Cote D'Azur for one week in August. We have rented an apartment in Ste. Maxime and a car and hope to cram as much as possible into such a short period before heading off to Spain. We have booked two winery visits in St. Tropez and Bandol but the rest of the time we hope to spend pursuing other pleasures that the Cote has to offer. Any itinerary suggestions. Remember "50 is the new 40".

I think it is a great plan and sound you gals will have fun no matter what!! FABULOUS!!
Make sure the apt has A/C; August in the French Riviera is scorching. Do use public transport as much you can, coastal roads will be congested. Plan in/out St. Tropez carefully. Do get to Nice, great ocean boardwalk, restaurants, and sights. |
Take the train to Nice for one day--lots to do and see, and many good restaurants.

train to Nice - don't drive
(as PP said) . Cote in August is a madhouse. |
Agree with using train to Nice-be sure and visit the Matisse museum and the Chagall museum if you love art! Have a wonderful visit! JKR2006

When I slept in St.Tropez more than 10 years ago, I did a round trip by boat to Sainte-Maxime that is located on the other side of the gulf, with a visit and lunch at Ste Maxime. You might like to do that to Saint-Tropez.

Head for the hilltowns of Provence for an unbelievable change of scenery and serious shopping. These medieval villages, some perched at the edge of a cliff, are something to see. You can easily visit Grasse, Gourdon, Tourrettes sur Loup, Vence and Ste. Paul de Vence in a day.

Head to the beaches, they are beautiful and full of beautiful people of all sizes, ages and shapes in everything from a one piece suit to absolutely nothing. We are here and haven't been able to tear ourselves away from the scene...our favorite is Tahiti. Rent a matlia, 20e a day, very comfortable.

Grasse, St-Paul, Vence, Tourrettes, and Gourdon all in one day? The trip out to Gourdon is an hour each way. That way lies exhaustion. If you omit Grasse, which I would advise, you can do a nice tour of the 3 remaining towns, have time for a good lunch, and really enjoy your time.
