Cote d'Azur
 

I will be spending 7-days on the Cote d'Azur at the end of October / early November and would like suggestions on what to see and do. I will be based in Monte Carlo and would like to visit the following:
Menton, San Remo, Nice, Grasse, Biot, Eze, St. Paul-de-Vence.
Can anyone recommend additional places to see? Things to do?

7 days is not that long especially if you are taking public transport. ( very good train or bus connections). Antibes is a nice spot. San Remo is o.k. but considering the time you have, I would stay in France.

I have thought about renting a car, but the public transportation seems so convenient that I haven't decided yet.
Is it the best way to see this area?

If you want to visit the small hill towns (such as Eze-village, St-Paul-de-Vence, and Mougins) a car is really useful. Grasse is best visited--if at all--during the daytime. You might add the charming small town of Valbonne to your list when you go to see Biot, and Vence when you visit St-Paul.

Like Underhill mentioned, a car is the best way to visit the places I enjoy the most on the Cote. Also Tourrettes-sur-Loup, Gourdon, Sospel, Peille, Peillon, Luceram, St Martin Vesubie, etc.

I'm not a fan of Grasse - visited it again for about the fourth time last year - still don't find it very interesting & it's a little too "gritty" for me.

Bus service is very good from Monte Carlo to Nice and Menton. We drove to Eze, Antibes , Cannes ans Provence.

We loved Gourdon and like the old town of Mougins, especially the Picasso photography gallery (view from the top floor was amazing)--great restaurants abound--as well as St. Paul de Vance, Antibes, and the glass studio in Biot, and Fondation Maeght, and Chapelle du Rosarie in Vance. (You can probably tell that I'm an art lover:D)

Keep in mind that what is "wonderful and lovely " for one person is not necessarily the same for everyone. You need to know if that person likes to travel the same way as you do. France is a beautiful country with something for everyone. Take the time to look for yourself and embrace the beauty of the place. No matter what works for others.

Do you have to stay the entire time in Monte Carlo, or could you re-locate for a few nights? We found Nice to be a nice homebase. Antibes makes a great day-trip from there.

I will be staying in Monte Carlo as that is where our accommodations are and I can't change those. Everything seems to be pretty centrally located, it's just a matter of prioritizing what I want to see. The recommendations so far are great, just need to narrow it down a bit.

Leaving for Cote D'Azur on October 30 for 7-days, looking for suggestions on what to pack. Temperatures for that time of year are indicating highs of 16C, is that normal?

No, should be warmer. Expects high temperatures up to 24C on good days, but you may also have cold winds and temperatures down to 16C. Seawater temps will still be around 22C, so swimming will be nice.

Do not forget to drive the Corniche de l'Esterel from Theoule to St. Raphael! One of the world's most scenic drives.
