Cost to rent a taxi for a day on the Amalfi Coast

I've read so many posts about the long lines and how jammed the SITA buses can be. Several people on this site have mentioned hiring a taxi--even for a whole day. Can someone please give me an idea of what the cost would be to hire a taxi for the day? It's just me and my husband so I suspect people who do this may have another party to split the cost with? We're staying in Positano in case that matters.

While staying in Naples we hired a private car for the day which took us up and down the Amalfi coast. Total cost was $200.00. Was very much worth the cost, it was a beauiful day!

jcrp -- who did you hire? would you mind sharing your experience?

Hi Luv - The going rate for a limo is approx. -

€ 150 - half day
€ 300 - full day

The following have all been recommended here. I suggest you contact them with your itinerary for a quote:

- Positano-based

www.positanocarservice.com
www.flaviogioia.com
www.limocarservice.net
www.benvenutolimos.com (Praiano)

- Sorrento-based

www.tourofitaly.com
www.francescomarrapese.com
www.cuomonet.it
www.seesorrento.com
www.sorrento.it

Alternatively you can tour the Amalfi Coast conveniently and cheaply by ferry (- and perhaps just use a taxi up to Ravello from Amalfi) if you want to cut the cost.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Steve,
Thanks for your detailed info. it is always so helpful!

So many people talk about the Amalfi Coast "drive", and i was wondering if one would be in a sense missiong out by taking the boat route and never actually doing the drive. (perhaps this should be its own post??)

We have used Carmine and Raffaele Monetti many times for different trips. They are also recommended by Rick Steves. We have them reserved for a couple of days in October. One day is only the Amalfi. They charge 200 Euro for that. The other day is farther out so it's a little more.
[email protected] They are very good. I wouldn't recommend them if they weren't.

Hello ILUPARIS,
I know you're going to love the Amalfi coast. We used Francesco Marrapese, as mentioned by Steve James. It was a delightful day up and down the Amalfi Coast. He was personable, knowledgeable, and we were very glad we spent one of our travel days in his company. Yes, the SITA buses were packed, even in October. Riding the buses were not pleasant experiences for us. Happy planning!

Thank you all for you detailed help, this is FANTASTIC!!

Steve, I did think of taking the ferry from Positano to Amalfi and then using a taxi from Amalfi to Ravello but then I wondered if hiring a driver could enhance our trip since this is one area we haven't been to? I'm getting the impression that taxis are fairly abundant since parking is scare? Please correct me if I'm wrong!

You have no idea how excited I am for this trip. 28 days and counting! I really hope the weather cooporates! I'd better get emailing!

:*)

I have stayed in Ravello (much nicer) and took the ferry between Amalfi and Positano. Very pleasant and lovely scenery. Cheap and run frequently. The bus between Amalfi and Ravello is only 1€. It is never crowded. Quite a ride!

It is really a waste of money to hire a driver from Positano to Ravello. Just use the public ferry and public bus. Ride with the locals and have a good time!

Also, there is a great little shoe shop in Amalf on the right of the street heading up to the Duomo.

At Ravello, have lunch at the Villa Maria. Wonderful view. Wonderful food.

Happy to answer any other questions.

mweiner,

Any other restaurant suggestions in Ravello area? We will be there 9/16-21. Anything else you enjoyed (perhaps getting to Capri for the day or something) ?

Thank you...

We used wwwtourofitaly.com
Excellent service! If you contact them you'll find they will reply very promptly. We had a very enjoyable drive along the coast--we also used them for airport/train station transfers in Naples.

gruezi-

There are two other restaurants in Ravello- one off the main square to the right among the ceramic shops. Little homestyle restaurant. Very good and reasonable.

There is another "Cumpa Cosimo"- up the street on the left of the main square facing the duomo. We also ate at the Ristorante Garden overlooking the water. Good and very very reasonable.

As for Capri- give me a few more days. We just had dinner at a great local Italian restaurant whose owner is from Capri and is there now.

You can also ferry between Amalfi and Capri.

In Amalfi there are two good restaurants worth the stop. Da Gamma and something like Oio. Another is La Caravella- only heard about this on the web, but it has a strong reputation.

Just follow your nose! Have a great time.

Is the great local Italian restaurant Romantico in Port Washington?
