Cost of Meal in Italy
 

Hi,

Can someone please advise me roughly what is the cost of a simple meal in Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan?

The meal does not need to be very good..

I'd say the range of prices is comparable to here in the U.S. The exception might be cost of soft drinks.

Actually I should clarify...comparable to prices in large U.S. cities.

I can speak for Rome, in May. We ate several good meals for under 20 euro per person. That was usually 2 courses, and bottled water. My husband usually had a glass of wine, or a quarter carafe.

In Venice, in May we spent a bit more, maybe an average of 25 euro each. Again, these were good meals.

I haven't been to Florence recently but, in the past, we found we could eat for a bit less than in Rome or Venice.

Again, we were eating well. If you don't care what you eat, you can spend a lot less than we did.

Didn't find the price of dining any different then home. Travelled with my 18 yr old daughter and a friend so we did not indulge in any fine dining. Markets were wonderful for good, cheap meals. When we did eat out it was usually pizza which was always excellent and cheap.

My wife and I do not eat much meat or seafood. We really like salads, pastas, soups, etc. We find the food in Italy to be very reasonable even with a liter or bottle of wine.
We usually eat small for lunch, perhaps splitting a large panino or getting some focaccia.
The pizzas we've had have been very good as have the pastas.

There is no need to go to Italy and settle for food that is not good.

Go a few blocks away from where all of the tourists are.

Bkfst: Coffee and a roll - 3E
Lunch: Slice of pizza and a glass of wine 5 - 8E
Dinner{ 20-35E with wine.

I always thought that when the dollar was not so weak that you could definately eat better in Italy than in the US. You could go to mid-priced restaurants and get GOOD food with local wine and it would be cheaper than a so-so US Italian restaurant. Now I would say the the prices are more even. Rome should be pretty easy to find decent, inexpensive food, for Venice I would suggest doing some homework and having names of restaurants otherwise it will be easy to pay higher prices for bogus food.

Sorry but this poster is just plain weird. Cost of a simple, 'not very good' meal, but wanting to know the limit on purchases of designer goods.
Just my personal opinion but I would much rather have a good meal than a second or third or fourth designer bag. I'm just saying...

Breakfast, lunch, or dinner? Do you drink wine/alcohol? That's what can increase the price of meals.

I think 20 euro per person is a reasonable number to work with for a modest meal in the four cities you mention.

Of course you can eat for less from casual cafes, street food, grocery stores.
