Hasn't anyone been to Cortina? How's Villa Alpina or Mueble Oasi?

Dear Claudia, try a text search for "Cortina" & you'll find several recommendations. It's been discussed recently. The scenery in the Dolomites is incredibly beautiful!

Claudia--<BR>I've been to and through Cortina several times. I don't know anything about those hotels you mentioned, but I can tell you they aren't listed in the Michelin Red Guide, which I consider my bible for hotels in Italy. I have stayed at the Hotel de la Poste and really enjoyed it. Had a balcony looking out over the incredible mountain view with the lovely cathedral in the foreground. Cortina is a nice place for strolling, hiking, and even shopping. There's only one catch; the entire village essentially closes down for about a week to 10 days during mid-June, so do some checking before you go there if that's when you are traveling.

Last August we traveled throughout the Dolomites. Karen Brown had recommended the Romantik Hotel La Perla in Corvara. It was wonderful. Driving from Corvara via Cortina to Venice, I was so happy we did not stay in Cortina. It's a big place. Corvara is charming, small and in a beautiful location.

P.S. Meals were included and they were fabulous. There are 4 or 5 dining rooms, each with a different ambiance. Quite charming, even my 10 & 13 year old loved it. Also, have an indoor pool/sauna in a grotto like motif. Quite fun after a day of hiking the hills.

I'd agree with Susan on Corvara if you want to stay in a nice little village in a very scenic location. Corvara is west of Cortina, a couple of mountain passes and winding roads away. Cortina is indeed a larger village, yet still a "village" in my eyes and easy to get around, if a bit hilly.
