Corsica - Sardinia - Sicily

We are fancying to have a two-week trip in late June to go through these three islands. Is it worthy? Any advice on transportation, weather, accommodation (preferably stylish but not too expension - around USD120 per night), sight-seeing points, etc. is well appreciated.

I've done a similar trip myself. All three islands are big and you could easily spend two weeks on each of them, so you need to read about them to decide which places you want to visit. Corsica is beautiful and mountainous. Ferries to Sardinia run from Bonifacio (www.saremar.it and www.mobylines.it) which can be reached by bus from Ajaccio. The arrival port in Sardinia is Santa Teresa Gallura which has buses to Olbia where you can get a train to Cagliari (www.trenitalia.com). Overnight ferries from Cagliari to Palermo or Trapani used to be run by Tirrenia (www.tirrenia.it) but seem to be suspended currently. I just book hotels on the spot, so cannot suggest anywhere "stylish".

I am in going in August to Sardinia, so the prices are higher than those in June. Anyway, I have had a hard time finding any hotels in the 3 star category that are under 100 Euros per person, per day. I have visited all of them, but frankly I'd suggest you rethink this. It is almost silly to go to Sicily for less than a week in my opinion. That only leaves 3 to 4 days each for the two very big islands of Corsica and Sardinia -- hardly worth the transportatin issues.

I'd break this into two separate trips. Two weeks to divide between Corscia and Sardinia (which you really need to do with a car) is a nice trip.

Two weeks in Sicily is also great -- and you can include Lipari and the Aeolian Islands. It is more possible to do Sicily without a car than it is Corsica and Sardinia in my opinion, but a car is still nice.

So think about one trip this year and another trip next year or a few years from now.

AP: here's another good and inexpensive small hotel in central Cagliari to add to your list: Hotel 4 Mori. Single room with a/c and breakfast 55 Euros. They have a web site.
