Corsica day trip from Sardinia - tickets and which day?
We are staying in Santa Teresa di Gallura as part of our Sardinia trip and want to do a day trip across to Bonifacio in Corsica, on 23 or 24 May. It looks to be about 80 euro return for two people (seemed a lot until I broke it down), would we have to prebook or just go down to the port and buy a ticket?
Also, would Sunday or Monday be better, when would shops and restaurants be more likely to be open? Thanks for any help. Kay |
There are two companies (www.saremar.it and www.moby.it) and the ships carry 300 to 400 passengers, so I doubt whether the ships will be full. Saremar may be cheaper than Moby.
That weekend is Whitsun, and the Monday is a public holiday in France but not in Italy. Bonifacio is a tourist resort and the restaurants will certainly be open; I'm not sure what shops are there. My last visit was in winter when nearly everything was shut. |
Thanks Geoff, I was hoping you would answer as you are very knowledgeable. It sounds like Sunday might be better, I didn't realise about the public holiday in France. I've seen some spectacular photos of Bonifacio so that's really the main reason for going - for views and scenery - but it's nicer if everything is open and there are people about.
Thanks again. Kay |
Yuu'll arrive in the port which is below the old town, make sure you take in the old town too, very much worth a visit. There are also boat trips to groto's, well worth it.

Thanks for the info, we have been and come back. It was a fantastic day trip, brilliant views and great weather. Would highly recommend it. Bonifacio is so picturesque and the marina smells of money! We saw a massive yacht in the harbour, just dwarfed everything else. Will have to make time to do a trip report.
