I know Europe. Europe is in the east, kind of like Texas is in the East. You misunderestimate me. I am a pitbull on the pantleg of opppotunity. I know that the human being and the fish can coexist. Families is where our nation finds hope, where our wings take dream. Put food on your family! Knock down the tollbooth! Vulcanize society! Make the pie higher! Make the pie higher! Make the pie higher!

George! Quit playing on the internet! It's time for your nap!

Hyp Ocrisy Mar 16th, 2001 05:58 AM

Ummm... if Clinton wasn't responsible for the boom in the '90s, how can he be responsible for the "recession"? If I recall, conservatives credited the boom years to the hard work of the American people, and they loudly claimed that William Jefferson Clinton had nothing whatsoever to do with any economic up turn experienced in the last decade. Sooooo, it's quite obvious that the current economic downturn is due soley to the fact that the American people have suddenly become lazy and unproductive, and that William Jefferson Clinton has nothing whatsoever to do with anything related to the economy. But, are conservatives aren't willing to throw aside their usual hypocrisy and remain intellectually honest? I'm not holding my breath.

Also, Bill Clinton did not come to my house, hold a gun to my head, and force me to gamble vast amounts of my savings in ridiculously over-priced tech stocks for companies run by IPO-greedy, get-rich-quick teenagers who never heard of a business model much less the word "profit". Did he do that to you? I'm upset, really, I would have liked to meet the guy.

Now, all of you Americans who are posting on the job, go back to work! Shame on you! The economy needs you!

Ann Mar 16th, 2001 06:28 AM

Well, Ralph, you proved your own point. "...children seem to be getting stupider..." should be "...children seem to be getting more stupid..."

I don't have kids, but I have seen the stuff they're studying in high school these days, and Ralph, there's no way you could handle what these kids are learning.

And so no kids were having sex when there is a Republican in the White House? Please. Ralph, remember that the "good old days" really weren't as good as you remember.

Tom Mar 16th, 2001 06:38 AM

Okay. OKAY!

Enough is enough!

To those on the right: Yes, you've hated B.C. from the first breath he took upon emerging from the womb. He exasperated and infuriated you. But, like Nixon, he was a brilliant politician with a soaring intellect and a positively Greek capacity for self-destruction. And now he is gone! He can't hurt you any more so get over it! You have better things to do than to whine about someone who is no longer relevant.

To those on the left: Yes, you thanked God for making B.C. president in the hopes he could right all the wrongs of the 80's. He let you down, lied to you and ultimately broke your heart. Now you have neither the energy nor the will to try to defend him. But you KNEW he was a rascal; how can you bemoan him acting according to his nature? And now he is gone. He can't hurt you any more so get over it! You have better things to do than to whine about somebody who is no longer relevant.

Lets turn down the volume on the name-calling and the hostility. When we're in Europe (remember what this site is about?), we're all Americans with a shared history, noble and otherwise. If we can't be wise, temperate and tolerant, lets at least pretend we are.

Thanks.

Thank God for Bill Clinton. Sexual harassment is acceptable again. Just ask Patricia Ireland.

Enlightenme Mar 16th, 2001 07:41 AM

Hyp Ocrisy,
First of all, we are not in a recession.
Second of all, Clinton can share some of the credit for the productivity boom in the nineties after all, he approved 7 of Newts ecomomic stymulus programs. Clinto also balanced the budget, but, only because of the republicans and their Contract with America.
Third, could someone please name one budget policy Clinton enitiated himself that was good for the economy.
Fourth, the NASDAQ rise should not be considered part of an ecomomic boom. It was fueled by the scam of the Y2k thiefs, media hype and a bunch of Asses who took part in the upswing and did not take profits. A true leader would have warned the public.
Fifth, Doug, we now know you still inhaled and I was wondering what flavor Cool Aid is your favorite?

Enlighten Me
OH SO SAD Mar 16th, 2001 09:50 AM

As I read these posts I am scared, really scared, at what the level of education has become in this country. The amount of spelling errors is frightening, not to mention the poor grammar. I am ashamed to admit that you people are the product of the United States' primary and secondary educational system. Disgusting!

What was that? Oh yes, that is right. Those wonderful vouchers that George JR, the acting president, proposes will solve all the problems. Yes indeed, they will allow those poor rich people to put their children in those marvelous private (read right wing religious) schools where they can be taught to really hate everyone not like them.
xxx Mar 16th, 2001 10:36 AM

OH SO SAD - The "amount of spelling errors." Try "the number of spelling errors." Sounds like you could use some remedial education.

BubbaSupporter Mar 16th, 2001 10:58 AM

Personally I think it’s a mark of distinction when a president can get a blow job and conduct domestic or international policy all at the same time. Poor Dubya has a hard enough time just trying to stay “on message.” (“The surplus — it’s your money!”) What a bore! No wonder the media keeps focusing on Clinton. What’s more, it’s all coming apart for Georgie. Cheney’s running the country, but, alas, he has a poor ticker! What is Schrub to do? He’s supposed to go to China in the fall — God help us all! Rumor has it his staff is trying to get him pumped for the trip by telling him China is just like Mexico. And you can bet he’s mulling that one over big-time. Did you hear that Bush responded to the deepening economic crisis by sayig that, yes, he was worried about people’s “portfolios?” Portfolios? What about the classes who can’t afford to dabble in the market? How out of touch is this clown?

mark Mar 16th, 2001 10:59 AM

Ralp - you say that in your rural conservative county there are a lot of pregnant teenagers. Seems as if the conservative approach isn't really working - kids are fairly smart and know how to play the game just like they're hypocritcal parents - give lip service, do what you want and try not to get caught. The Catholic church is rife with true pedophiles - priests who moloest boys and girls. Lets not think that somehow a conservative - moral - approach is better. All you have to do is dig a few inches to find out that people who go about trying to convince everyone they're moral are the worst of the lot. Bush Sr. and Ronnie Tater tots for brains Regan sold arms to Iran - lied about it - and got away with it because they knew how to play the game. Bill should have gotten rid of the blue dress. Pull your head out of the sand - talk frankly and non -religiously about sex to your children - you may save their lives

xxxx Mar 16th, 2001 11:14 AM

I'm appalled at Bill's taste in the women he cheated with - talk about ugly. And remember - it was Monica who flashing her thong in the White House. The sex between Monica and Bill was consentual - Monica is nothing but a star ****er

xxx Mar 16th, 2001 01:40 PM

"Coming apart for Georgie." Try watching the news. His approval rating is outstanding. Even Bill Bradley described the first two months of the Bush II Administration as "flawless."

By the way, Catholics tend to vote more liberal than conservative. I don't know if it's a death penalty thing, a Kennedy thing, or what. But don't blame pedophile priests on the vast right wing conspiracy..

Ralph Mar 16th, 2001 01:54 PM

I like and agree with Tom's post. As for Ann, using the preferred English, more stupid is better English than stupider. Yet using stupider had more oomph so I used it rather than the preferred. Rules are made to be broken in English; even Churchill refused to abide by the rule not to end a sentence with a preposition. As for Clinton, Democrats will be saddled with him in much the same way the Republicans were saddled with Nixon. Six years after Nixon resigned in disgrace, Reagan was elected. Four or eight years from now, maybe an up and coming Democrat will lead the Democrats to victory. Maybe it will be that smart Chink governor (alright, I've had a few Guinesses and I'm trying to get a rise out of you libs) of Washington, Gary Locke. My last words on Clinton and Nixon- two very smart men with severe character flaws. And both were re-elected easily. America gets what it deserves.

Left Hanging Mar 16th, 2001 03:26 PM

Man, I can't believe how many stupid people there are on this board. Clinton did nothing for the economy. He did nothing for the minorities and the worst of it is he did nothing for / to(please) any of the woman he was with.

Talk about a self indulgent narcissist who's only brilliance was to be at the right place at the right time!

Watch out and don't expect anything in return except a stained dress.

Al Mar 16th, 2001 05:15 PM

Don't you just LOVE this string of comments! It has so MUCH to do with travel!

Ralphisaracist Mar 16th, 2001 05:41 PM

Ralph,

You can blame your insensitive ("Chink governor of Washington") and racist remark on the beer you've been drinking, but that's sort of like leading a klan rally and blaming it on the moonshine. Go back under your rock! It's 2001 and 1931!

rjm Mar 16th, 2001 05:51 PM

Tom (about 13 posts up) has said it best. It's the truth; how can one disagree? (That's a rhetorical question)

Mark Mar 16th, 2001 06:04 PM

Has anyone noticed that the breakout of Hoof and Mouth disease in Europe is concurrent with Clintons visit. I think maybe he stepped in something he shouldn't have. Knowing him, he's probably into farm animals. After all he's got a heffer at home.
Mark

Mother Mar 16th, 2001 09:55 PM

OK boys and girls, your blood pressure is rising and you all know you won't convince each other that YOUR opinion is the RIGHT one. So let's all take a deep breath and get back to travel.

Austin Powers Mar 16th, 2001 09:57 PM

Just How Low can you Go? Randy, baby. But you know, you conservative yanks are really quite dumb. With W as your President, the joke's on YOU. Tally ho.

Poor Georgie Mar 17th, 2001 05:16 AM

Hey xxx: Bush has a high approval rating? No higher than Clinton or Reagan at this early stage, if you’d done your homework. The Latest NY Times poll also showed that more than half the people don’t believe he’s in charge. And he’s not — he’s just a mouthpiece for Cheney and the other oil boys, His tax plan is coming apart. It provides no early stimulus to help jumpstart the economy, only ample paybacks for his other portfolio-rich constitutents. And the word is getting out. Worried about carbon dioxide emissions and global warming? You better be. But Georgie ain’t. Think Bush’s faith-based initiatives will save the country? Which faiths will get the money? Already the religious right is crying that only they should get the DC bucks. Do you want to see priests and other clergy roaming Capitol Hill as lobbyists fighting over the available money? You will. Want campaign finance reform? Look at Bush’s laughable proposal that still allows soft money contributions from individuals. Nice loophole. And McCain isn’t buying it. Want to open the Alaska wildnerness to drilling? Cheney does. Along with his pals. Think Colin Powell is the Secretary of State? He thought so, until Cheney humiliated him on North Korea and Kosovo. Think Whitman is head of the EPA? She thought so, until Cheney reversed Bush’s “position” on CO2 emissions and made her look foolish. Tight ship? Flawless transition? I don’t think so. Think the markets have much confidence in Bush? Look at the numbers the last week, which reflect, in part, their sense that the captain is befuddled.

The GOP can try, but they can’t blame Clinton for everything. It’s Bush’s economy now, and all he can do is spit out on message like a parrot, “Tax cut!” No subtlety, no intelligence, no real answers to the issues at hand. I don’t worry about Clinton over in Europe — they love him there, as they do in Asia. But Bush will be utterly lost abroad, if they don’t keep an eye on the frat boy. Sorry xxx, plain and simple, Georgie ain’t ready for prime time!

Onthefence Mar 17th, 2001 07:54 AM

Poor Georgie,
I was on the fence about Bush until now. Thanks for making me aware that we finally have people in charge who will delegate and administrate for the majority.

Poor Georgie Mar 17th, 2001 09:11 AM

OntheFence: No, by your comment, I don’t think you were ever on the fence. But a good try.

xxx Mar 17th, 2001 10:28 AM

To the dumb Brit above who said "America gets what it deserves," I would point out that you are the ones with the medieval-type diseases rampaging through your country right now. Maybe God doesn't like socialists and liberals.

Bushie Mar 17th, 2001 10:42 AM

To Poor Georgie - what a dumb ass you are. Do you think I care whether the tax cut is because of Bush or Cheney? As long as I get my share, I couldn't care less. It's already been passed by the House and it will benefit me tremendously. Two Republican senators oppose it and two Democratic senators are going to vote for it. Looks like a done deal.

What did Clinton do for you and all your fellow welfare recipients? The Welfare Reform Act? That left you sitting pretty, didn't it? And gays in the military was a stupid issue to expend his early political capital on. You may not like the policies (because you're stupid), but the Bush Administration is off to a far more impressive start than the previous clown show.

Global warming is a pop science fad that will fade into obsurity now that Al Gore is teaching journalism. And if you campaign finance reform idiots get your way, only nutcases like Ross Perot will ever be eligible for president.

This thread has a lot of entertainment value if anything...so I am posting another reply to get it back to the top of the list.
SOSICK Mar 17th, 2001 01:58 PM

Back to the top, I know this is a travel board, but, it amazes me the way people can view the same person in different ways.
Qustion: Can someone tell me something that Clinton did, that was his own idea (legislatively) besides raping a bunch of woman?

Oh Gee! Mar 17th, 2001 02:37 PM

I've never read any more stupid remarks in my life. Let me first say--This is not a Clinton depression. It is merely the American people expressing uncertainty in George double U's ability to lead this country. How come it didn't happen until after the election?

anonymous Mar 17th, 2001 02:40 PM

Clinton was actually a fairly good fiscal conservative. He resisted his liberal urge to bust the budget and he did sign the welfare reform legislation. The man was also an incredibly gifted politician. He managed to placate his liberal constituencies without actually giving them much. African-Americans loved Clinton, yet Affirmative Action was severly degraded under his watch.

Clinton as a human being is summarized by his action when the Lewinsky scandal first erupted. He denied everything and instructed his staff to tell the media that the woman was nothing more than an unstable and obsessive stalker. Trash an innocent woman's reputation - of course! Anything to save his sleazy hide. The most powerful man in the world is not only anxious to take advantage of a young naive woman, but just as anxious to humiliate her and essentially ruin her life in front of the entire world. Lewinsky wasn't the one talking to the media. Nor was it her fault that Linda Tripp blew the whistle. But according to the Gospel of Bill, she had to be neutralized no matter what the cost. Now that Nixon's dead, Clinton will become the sleaze icon of modern American politics.

Mark Mar 17th, 2001 04:18 PM

Oh Gee,
The NASDAQ topped out in March of 2000 at over 5000 while Clinton was prez. It dropped 50% while he was still in office in January 2001. Dubya hasn't even submitted a budget yet and you give him the blame for the market downturn.
Get real!

Poor Georgie Mar 18th, 2001 05:27 AM

To Bushie: Unless you’re in the top 1% financially (you’re obviously not in the top 1% intellectually), you would get a pittance over the next 10 years under Bush’s current tax proposal. I can see you’ve swallowed Bush’s propaganda whole, something he would enjoy seeing you do. Yes, his bill passed the House, but it will not pass the Senate. Some sort of compromise tax cut will be worked out, some type of smaller, more targeted tax cut that will provide a faster stimulus to the economy. Now that there is an economic downturn the early surplus predictions will also have to be adjusted downward. All those trillions Bush claims will be there simply won’t be there for him to squander. Naturally you probably haven’t thought of this but you should. You also should worry about Social Security and Medicare, not just for yourself but for others. But I can see by your I-want-to-get-mine typically Republican temperament that thinking about the concerns of others simply might be too much of a stretch for you.

As for Mr. or Mrs xxx: Your comment that the Brits are getting what they deserve with this foot-and-mouth plague shows you’re as foolish and insensitive as Bushie. Perhaps the two of you should hook up sometimes soon and trade imbecilities.

Alison Mar 18th, 2001 06:31 AM

The truth is what bothers people the most is that we have a Christian in office, someone who actually prays for guidance and trys to serve the country through the Lord. It scares pagens like most of you because you don't understand so you try to joke and put down. This sort of full life is available to you also. Instead of putting others down try to do something good. You will feel alot better in the long run. For the 1st time in a long time we have a man in the White house who doesn't think he is God, he worships God. I thank my blessings.

Freya's Mar 18th, 2001 01:18 PM

Alison, we pagans spell it with two "a"s not pagen. And we haven't seen Jehovah doing much for anyone lately - say the last 5000 years. Would you like to discuss a religious leader? How about Moses? 40 years in the desert; Jehovah finally had to kill him - and then he hid the body. Hmmmm . . . sounds like something Nixon or Clinton would do. Could it be the Christian god was just another politician? Well, yes, my lord, I believe that might be true. What? On my knees? Again!?

thief in the white house Mar 18th, 2001 01:51 PM

What was that again? That God is smiting medieval plagues upon those atheist, socialist Brits because they have been faithless? Nice sentiment.

If you want to see pure socialism, read the words of Jesus. And then think about serving both God and Mammon.

If the current economic down-turn eats away at our surplus, from where do you think Georgie's going to fund his tax cut for the rich?

And talk about delusional thinking, while Georgie was preaching the virtues of his tax cut last week and a spotlight caught on fire, Georgie told the audience it was "a sign from above". (??!!?)

Snake-oil, any one?
