Corpus Christi celebration in Munich

My family will be vacationing in Munich an a few weeks. The stay will include Thursday, June 7, which this year is Corpus Christi Day (Fronleichnam). It seems like some businesses will be closed (including our car rental company). What else can we expect regarding either closures or activities (parades?) that might be intersting? Will the major tourist attractions be open? Restaurants?

Thanks.

John

I've been in small towns in Germany twice on Fronleichnam. Both had parades. In Schwäbisch Hall, there was a parade of people from nearby villages, through the town and to St. Michael's for the first Catholic Mass there in probably 500 years. It was pretty impressive.

However, I don't know about Munich, since it is of course a much bigger town.

Why don't you email your hotel to ask.

Thanks for the advice -- I'll check with the hotel.

It'll be like a Sunday, i.e. all shops closed but restaurants and museums are open. Public transport is going less frequently than on a workday (if you look at the time-tables, you need to take the time from "Sonn- un Feiertage").

And yes, Munich will have a central Fronleichnamsprozession. There will also be several smaller processions in small towns around Munich.
