Cornwall or Dorset Coast?

My family and I are trying to decide where to go in mid-September. We will be renting a house and are trying to decide between Cornwall or Dorset. I've been to Dorset and think the coastline there is gorgeous. Any opinions/suggestions?

Only the vaguest reply, sorry. Just returned from a trip to Wales with British friends. They suggested our next together should be to Cornwall, so am thinking it's pretty spectacular as well. Good luck.

I have followed the coast west of Bath down to Lands end and over as far as the road up to Canterbury. How can you go wrong? We were 3 days in Cornwall with Penzance as our base(convenient). That was enough for me to feel I had seen the area before moving on. How long are you planning on staying in one area? I can never stay still for long. Check out Mousehole while you are there. The locals call it Mawzawl but one look at the tiny opening in the seawall to negotiate your boat through and you know what the fishermen called it.

I would vote for Dorset, perhaps I am biased as we have a walking holiday in Dorset or East Devon most years, staying in rented cottages. The coastal path is lovely and all footpaths seem to be well signposted. If you decide on Dorset do vist next door to East Devon, interesting coastal towns and villages such as Beer, Branscombe, Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton(nice river walk from here following the path of the river Otter to Otterton). There are interesting National Trust properties to visit if you are in to that sort of thing, they will still be open in September the season ends, I think at the beginning of October. feel free to email if I can help further.

I visited the West Country last October, from Bath to Land's End and back to Bath, but I by-passed Dorset. Cornwall is a wonderful and beautiful place. Don't miss Land's End, St Michael's Mt., St. Ives, Falmouth (with Pendennis and St. Mawes Castles), Tintagel (allegedly King Arthur's birthplace), Mousehole, Minack Theatre, etc. etc.
Try this site: http://www.cornwall-online.co.uk/
If you like walking, try: http://www.cornishman.com/index.htm
