Cornwall

I am planning a 2 week trip to England in May, with the emphasis on Cornwall. My friend and I hope to spend half our trip there. We are thinking of splitting our time up between several B & B's, in order not to have to drive too far every day. Does anyone have any suggestions toward this end? The UK's AA site has reliable accomodation listings, but I was hoping to get first hand help. This is my first trip to the UK, so I want to avoid disappointment as much as possible. <BR>I have gotten a lot of info from this site as far as time spent in London, which is our other destination. I'll keep reading!

Check the Karen Brown web site. We found a great place there. We stayed at Landewednack House. Check the following: http://www.karenbrown.com/england/landewednack.html http://www.wolsey-lodges.co.uk/h44.html

Cornwall is one of my favorite areas in England. All the gardens are at their best in April and ealier May. Usually I book B&B throught local tourist center upon arriving, never have any problem. <BR> <BR>The public transportation system is fairly good in Cornwall, if you decide not driving( many roads in Cornwall are very narrow and winding),check www.carfreedaysout.com,they have good deal on passes, and good info too.

If you plan on a week in Cornwall I would stongly suggest renting a cottage somewhere in mid-county or along the south coast. The distances are not great and the luxury of having a "home" to go home to each night, a washer/dryer, plus the great flexibility of being on your own timetable instead of the B&Bs are all reasons a self catering cottage is more comfortable. <BR> <BR>Don't get me wrong - I B&B all the time -- but when I have a whole week or more in one area I always rent a cottage or flat. Even if you don't do any major cooking, a cottage will still save you money since you can pack your own picnic lunches (cheaper than getting one from a B&B - if they will even do one for you) and fix quick dinners w/o having to eat out every night. <BR> <BR>Plus having more room (a living room, kitchen, couple of bedrooms, baths, garden -- all for just your own use -- really adds to the enjoyment.

Betsy-I have never been to Cornwall-but next time to England I want to go there-this past summer it was just London. After reading the book "Coming Home" by <BR>Rosamunde Pilcher I've always wanted to see Cornwall. Its a nice story of a young girl growing up in Cornwall during WWII-totally fiction. You might enjoy reading it to "get in the mood". <BR>Shadow

Good thought, Shadow-and if I might add to it~watching films based on the old Daphne Dumaurier stories, like Rebecca and My Cousin Rachel, they were set in Cornwall and show the wonderful moody look of the area.Or just read them, really "moody"--Fowey (pronounced FOY)is the place my friends rent a cottage each year, and they love it..Cornwall being on our list of must-go-to's-we would stay near the sea, and rent a car and just wander all over~have a wonderful time~M

Ah, Fowey. I was so excited to find a town with 2 bookstores practically devoted to Daphne du Maurier! A possible place to stay is close to the border between Devonshire & Cornwall. Tor Cottage was a lovely out of the way but centrally located place -- sort of B&B. e-mail is [email protected] I'm not sure of the website, but try using www instead of the info@. I think you could make day trips to both north and south Cornwall. We stayed at Hotel Tresanton in St. Mawes. Absolutely beautiful, but very expensive. The Garrick at St. Ives is cheaper but has a nice view. If you stay someplace you are really impressed with, come back on here and let us know!
