Cork questions
My husband and I will be traveling from Cork to Ennis as part of our first visit to Ireland. Wondering if either the train or bus would provide a more scenic trip. We are open to either option.
While in Cork we plan a day trip to Kinsale. Our days there coincide with the Kinsale Food Festival. Would this make it a good or bad time to visit? And are the restaurants open in addition to the festivities? Thanks! |
I have taken the bus to Kinsale from Cork and it was great. I would love the food fest but am sure most places will be open to serve food.

Prefer the Bus myself and its a straight through option, the train changes in Limerick, no big deal really
I prefer to eat ample, good, well priced food than pander to a chefs whims which is almost a requirement in Kinsale. |
Would you choose a day trip to Cobh over Kinsale? We will be spending our other full day in Cork going to the Jameson Distillery in Midleton.
|
I far prefer Cobh to Kinsale. Spike Island is a weekend only option for October could be a plan if the weather is good?
|
I would do Cobh over Kinsale!
|
Thanks to both of you! We will check out Cobh. Any favorite restaurants there or in Cork?
|
I think Jacob's Ladder in Cobh was pretty decent as I recall, but it's been awhile. They pull a good Murphy's Stout at the Rob Roy bar though. Definitely recommend the pub and the beer.

Always find the food good in the Commodore Hotel, not as expensive as the place across the road. I know they are currently advertising for a 2nd Chef but I doubt that a small change in staff will have any effect on my recommendation.
