Corisca - Train from Ajaccio to Corte in May
Hello Everyone.
I will be visiting Corsica next month in May and would like to take the train to see the magnificent scenery that I've been reading about. I'll be staying in both Ajaccio and Bonifacio. Is the best scenery to be seen by train between Ajaccio and Corte or do the other legs of the journey from Corte to Calvi or Corte to Bastia hold special prizes that should not be missed? I will not be renting a car while on Corsica so the only other opportunity I'll have to see the countryside will be on the bus between Ajaccio and Bonifacio round-trip.
Thanks in advance.
Ross

The best scenery is through the mountains south of Corte, say from Vizzavona to Corte, so Ajaccio to Corte covers it. But Corte-Calvi is also good, with a coastal stretch near Calvi.
From Corte to Bastia I've driven alongside the train tracks, though not taken the train itself, but the scenwery on this route is not as good as the line to Calvi.
They should have some of the new 'panoramic' air-con diesel trains in service by now, too.

All of Corsica is scenic, but I think the railway from Ajaccio to Corte is more spectacular than Corte to Bastia. The railway is being modernised and there were replacement buses for parts of the route when I was there in December. I went on one of the new trains.
