Corinth Canal
heading to Greece tomorrow.
is this place worth visiting? |
Corinth itself is a usual stop on the so-called "classical tour" which usually points out the location where St. Paul supposedly preached to the Corinthians amidst the now ruins.
|
classical tour?
|
The canal is truly awe-inspiring but warrants about 10-15 minutes of your time. Stop and take a few pics as you head-on toward somewhere else.
|
The "classical tour" typically consists of two-three days and includes Corinth, Naphleon, Epidaurus, Olympia, and Delphi.
Tour companies such as Chat and Key Tours have run these for decades. |
I take it is very good then?
|
I agree with Zeus. It's amazing, breathtaking really, but also does not take so much time. We hired a private taxi guide for the day to drive us from Athens to Nafplio with stops at the Corinth Canal, Epidaurus and Mycenae on the way. After our 15-20 minute stop at the Canal overlook he took us to a part of the canal where cars cross, which was also interesting.
|
I would not make a trip specially to see the canal, but it is conveniently on the way from Athens to the Peloponnese.
The canal is not at the site of the ruins of Corinth. I took the classical tour with GO Tours, and we stopped at the Corinth Canal before heading to Epidaurus and Mycenae, but we did not go to Corinth. |
We enjoyed the tour when we took it several years ago. But we were on a small bus with fewer than 30 people and had a wonderful and very informative guide who had been doing the tour for years. It was in very early June, the weather still wasn't terribly hot and there weren't a lot of other visitors at the sites.
I think it is worthwhile if you want several DAYS of the ruins..some do and others don't. |
