Corelone, Sicily

Has anyone ever been to this town. If so, is it worth the trip? How far is it from Palermo?

Joe Rogers Jul 12th, 2002 10:06 AM

I meant Corleone.

Joe--If you read "Midnight in Sicily", a wonderful journalistic account of how the Sicilian mafia gained control and influence in the Italian government and business in the 1970s-80s, you'll learn as I did that Corleone is one of the ugliest, most barren and scariest towns in Sicily and the breeding ground for the most brutal murders in the mafia. I wouldn't venture to go there.

Joe--I meant "murderers" not murders.

I have never been to Corleone, but when I was in Sicily I heard that people of Corleone are so tired of all the "Godfather tourists" that they don´t even pretend friendliness any more.
