Cordoba to Granada

We are considering train travel bewteen major cities in lieu of renting a car for the duration of our spring 07 trip to Adalusia. Two quick questions:

1- How is train travel between Cordoba and Granada (is the route convenient, ie direct)?

2- Is it easy rent a car in Granada? We will be driving out to Ronda via the Costa Tropical after Granada.

Many thanks!

If you can bring yourselves to travel by bus - check em out - quick, comfortable, cheap.

Hello,

I think you can drive it with a car quite easily. Like fuzzylogic I took the bus and it was quick and easy. I had a bit of nap and read a book and arrived relaxed. Someone did tell me that there is rail service but the times were inconvenient.

Thanks fuzzylogic and TorontoSteven. How long does the bus take? Did you buy tickets in advance? Is it necessary to do so?

Thanks again for your input. We are not against bus travel!

Best,
Lisa

I think my bus ride was about 90 minutes - no stopping. I bought my tickets that morning at the station and had no problems at all. I showed up about an hour early had my tickets and then sat for 50 minutes in the terminal before the bus left. The bus was only 1/3 full. My hotel gave me a bus schedule and there were 3 options in the morning and 4 or 5 in the afternoon. It was very easy. The bus stations in both towns are close to the centre.

I travelled through Spain once in the month of Nov and once in April. Had no problems not buying my bus tickets in advance. Took the train on one part of my trip over there, (but not when we went from Granada to Cordoba). Got hosed on that one -- didn't buy our tickets from Salamanca back to Burgos when we got to the station in Salamanca and ended up having to take a 4:30 a.m. train the next morning out of Salamanca when we'd hoped to get out around 7 p.m. the same day we'd arrived! Oh well, learned a good lesson! Had a nice time staying up late in the bus station (they aren't keen on you laying down on the benches at the station -- that's for bums!) LOL! Did Granada to Cordoba by bus. Great experiences with the buses in Spain all around. If you do want to get your tickets in advance to play it safe, you can likely get away with purchasing them at the station the day before you want to travel (if that's possible with your itinerary).

Fabulous-just what I was looking for! Thanks again. I tend to be a manic planner and am relieved to know that I can leave some of our planning for the last minute.

Best,
Lisa

Bus travel in Spain sure has changed in 35 years!! My bus ride in 1970 took 4 hours!!! It was direct, but also operated as the local bus, sometimes picking someone up in the center of town and letting them off less than a mile later. Oh, and the lady with two live chickens that got out of her shopping bag!!!!

Beleve it or not, the bus arrived on time TO THE SECOND!
