Cordes-sur-Ciel or Saint-Cirque-Lapopie?

On our drive from Toulouse to Sarlat we'd like to stop at either one of these towns, or both if time allows.

Which would you choose if you only had time for one?

My vote for Cordes-sur-Ciel. It has a feel of being a real working town, and its gorgeous, too.

Cordes is delightful.. I spent a night there a few years back at Le Grand Ecuyer. Absolutely superb food and my room; Seigneur de la Prune, the rooms have names, had a small balcony overlooking a pasture where cows were either grazing or asleep. Gorgeous 13th century building which has been perfectly restored and preserved.. I would highly recommend one night in Cordes, which is only 20 miles from Albi.

Just to point out that there is no circus (cirque) at St CIRQ-Lapopie.

I too prefer Cordes, but you might be interested to know that St Cirq was recently voted 'Le village préféré des Français,' on a recent television survey. Might just mean that they had a particularly efficient write-in campaign.

Cirque---Cirq? Obviously my French needs major help. My pronunciation is even worse. I definitely appreciate the French people who put up with me and try to help.
