Good evening, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You will be able to find coral in most
jewelry stores not specializing in gold
or silver. My only suggestion is to
be able to have enough knowledge of coral sp you know what you are buying
My wife beleives it is not as plentiful
as was many years back, but feels the
Venice had agood variety. Also just
a remark, if you see something you like
buy it as if you look later, it may not
be there...Richard of La Grange Park, Il..

hi there,
make shure that is is allowd to bring corals to Your homecountry. some sorts of it are on the forbidden list, for they are fading away from the earth by being found more often in jeweleris than in the sea.

Sorrento has coral jewelry.

I think it may be common and relatively inexpensive in southern Italy. It certainly is in Sicily. In Taromina street vendors sell it everywhere.

I saw quite a bit in small shops in downtown Pompei

I just came back from Pompeii and sorrento where the streets were full of coral jewelry. I hate to disappoint you but I can tell you for a fact that the stones are mined in Asia and they are cut and carved in China. Even my guidebook said something to that direction. I am in the jewelry industry and I think the shops have the responsibity to tell the clients where the stones come from. Sourthern Italy did produced coral before. I doubt very much you can find coral jewelry made in italy these days. It may be possible in the fine jewelry shops and not the souvenir shops. As far as bringing into the US, as long as it's for personal use, it should be OK.
