Copenhagen vs Stockholm

I'm planning on visiting either Denmark or Sweden for 3 days in mid-September but am having a tough time deciding between Copenhagen and Stockholm! Which is the better option?

Hi Saffa,

Flip a coin.

They are both worth a visit, although I prefer Copenhagen.

Hard decision, but if you've never been to either place, maybe consider Copenhagen this time. It's an enchanting place to visit but/and entirely "doable" in 3 days. Also, you're beginning to lose sunlight somewhat, and Stockholm is just that much further north -- although you're awfully close the equinox, I suppose, so perhaps that's not a consideration.

But Stockholm, while a wonderful and rich city, really could merit a slightly longer stay. (But then so could Denmark around Copenhagen... sorry!).

And, finally, I prefer the food in Copenhagen (rich, varied, esp. the cheese) to that in Stockholm (a bit more on the all-seafood side).

But it really is a coin-flip and you're lucky to be doing either.

Here's a question: why did you pick these two cities? What appeals to you? Maybe if you spell out what you are interested in, we could help tip the balance one way or the other.

Hi Jean,

Why Copenhagen: (in no particular order)

Tivoli Gardens, Smorrebrod, Smorgasbord, cheese, beer, Wienerbrod, gravelax, the Strojet, Nyhaven, Roskilde, Frederiksborg, the people.

Sunset will be 20 min later in Copenhagen.

Loved both cities and you really could flip a coin and be happy. But for three days I would choose Copenhagen for many of the same reasons as above, but I'll add two more 1) you can always catch a train or ferry and be in Sweden for a few hours. 2) the people seem to be more open and freindly. Swedes tend to be more stoic and reserved. Either way you'll love your trip. (Oh yeah - the Danish pastries are magical.)
