Copenhagen Trip Report
 

We live in Denmark and have been to Copenhagen many times over the years. This December we revisited on a long weekend and had a delightful time. This time I thought I'd share the experience, so I have uploaded a trip report with photos at http://www.sitestory.dk/rejser/copenhagen2007/index.htm. I have also written a facts-page about Copenhagen with some travel tips. Don't expect a complete guide - it is just some personal preferences and advice.

Some say that Denmark is terribly expensive. That can be true, and we even have a joke that goes like this:

"Are you going on holiday?"
"Yes"
"Well, where are you going?"
"Nowhere"
"Oh! Can you afford that?"

However even in Copenhagen there are reasonably priced hotels, and if you get away from the tourist mainstream, there are also good restaurants, where you can have a cheap meal.

my neice is going to Copenhagen in January for 6 months as an exchange in the university. we plan to visit in late May - is 4 days enough? what are the must see?

4 days is a short time for anything. Copenhagen has a lot to offer, and your niece will probably have some good ideas about what to show you, when you get there. If not I'd say that I much prefer "like to see" than "must see".

It all depends on your interests - if for instance you are bored stiff by looking at art, there is no point in seeing "must see" art galleries. The website www.visitcopenhagen.com may give you some ideas.

We are visiting Copenhagen at the end of a three week trip in mid-June. I want very much to visit the Karen Blixen museum outside of Copenhagen and wonder if it is worth it to rent a car to get there for one day only. We do a lot with public transportation but I understand the local bus might drop us still some distance away, and that would be difficult for us to walk. Can you advise?

Yankeetraveler, is your neice with DIS? MY neice was there for the entire year in 2005-2006. with DIS. It's a tough program but very worth it. I went with my brother and SIL to visit her right after Christmas in 2005. That was a GREAT trip. We loved it..went to Stockholm also. Very snowy and cold that year...wonderful.

My neice had to take Danish for the entire year. She said it was quite difficult but she passed so was pleased about that. Hope YOUR neice enjoys her time there.

My neice is taking one semester at the Univ of Copenhagen, she left early January to study Danish.

She's having fun making new friends.

It should not be necessary to rent a car to visit the museum. There's a regional train from Copenhagen Central to Rungsted Kyst Station. That will take a little less than half an hour. From here it is only 1.3 km walk to the museum.

Go to the Danish train website http://www.rejseplanen.dk (choose English). Type in Copenhagen as your departure station and "Rungsted Strandvej 111, 2960 Rungsted Kyst" as your destination. The same address will show you the museum's location on e.g. Google Maps.
