Copenhagen travel
 

I've read that the easiest way for getting to the Mermaid Hotel from the airport is via train. Can anyone shed some more light on this for us.

You get the train at the airport and take it to Copenhagen Central Station. The Mermaid is about three or four blocks away. I was going to write out how to walk there, but I'm afraid of making a confusing error.

So I will suggest instead that you go to the tourist information center across the street from the central train station, pick up a map, and maybe ask there. It's a very easy walk.

It's easy to get to. From Central Station, go out the main door, (follow the crowd) walk towards the big town hall square (Radhuspladsen) outside the town hall (Radhuset). Stop to see the Lur Blowers Statue, cross the street (Vester Vologade) to the Palace Hotel, turn right two blocks, and it is in the middle of the next block on the left. The hotel is close to the National Museum, Tivoli, Thorvaldsen's Museum, Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Christianborg Palace, Stroget, etc. Once you have checked into the hotel, go outside and get lost in this part of the city. You should have a great time.

Follow up to our travel. Denmark was nice, very nice people, friendly, helpful. Copenhagen was ok, some nice stuff to see and do, some very good food and wine. But, to anyone who travels there, I'd avoid The Mermaid Hotel. The staff there is very nice, some pretty gals at the front desk, however, the beds are like rocks. Our first night there they put us in a smoking room and it really was bad. So we asked for a nonsmoking room and they gladly gave us one. Why they didn't ask in the first place I don't know. The shower/toilet room etc is typical Europe anymore. Too shower you just pull the curtain over the toilet and shower, then your squeegee the floor when you are done.
The breakfast was good too, lots of meats, breads, coffee etc. If they fixed up the rooms and got better beds, it would be a very nice place to stay. But just because of the beds I would avoid it.

I didn't have a problem with the beds being hard. I do think people who expect a 3* hotel might be disappointed by the bathrooms. I'm glad it sounds like you had a good time in Copenhagen anyway.

I would go back to the Mermaid and Copenhagen anytime. I loved the breakfasts there. I loved being in such a central location. I love the city.

So, other than friendly, accomodating people and a good breakfast what else did you like about Copenhagen?

I wonder why you didn't ask for a "no smoking" room at the start.
