Copenhagen to Malmo/Sturup airport

Maybe soemone else who has used Ryanair as a connection for a Baltic cruise has faced th same situation. This is my situation.

My wife and I will disembark a cruise in Copehangen on Sunday, July 1, around 9 am. We'll have had a couple of days in Copenhagen by then.
We fly from Malmo Sturup airport on Ryanair to Dublin at 6 pm that day. So, we should arrive at the airport around 4:30 pm.

1) Should we spend most of the day in Malmo? What are the highlights accessible by public transport?

2) How can we get from Copenhagen to Malmo with one large bag and one carry-on each? Do city buses accept these? I see that Sunday bus service directs to Sturup airport from Copenhagen are very limited, and don't fit in our plans. (Also, we would not want to spend most of the day at Sturup airport.) Are there any buses from the Copehagen airport to Malmo or Sturup airport? I think its fairly easy to get from Copenhagen downtown to its aiport.

3) If we look around Malmo, (Or alternatively, Copenhagen) where can we stash our baggage for half a day?

4) What frequency are buses from Malmo downtown to Sturup airport, or should we use a cab?

Must we use Danish and Swedish kroner, or would euros be acceptable? (Buses and elsewhere)

Thank you for any help.

The bus schedule coincides with Ryanair's flight schedule. Their flight on July 1 departs at 7:20pm from MMX to DUB. The bus from Copenhagen arrives at 6:20pm, to match the time. Basically everybody on that bus will be flying with you.

I don't know about a bus directly to Malmo Sturup from Copenhagen, but I do know that what I have found to be the best way to get to Malmo is to go to Kobenhaven H (the main train station) and from there, catch a train to Malmo. The train in Malmo arrives at Malmo's central station, and from there you can catch a bus directly to Sturup (go to the bus stops outside the station). Whatever you do, do NOT take a cab to Sturup from the train station....my friend and I missed the last bus and had to cab there and it cost us about $100 CAD!

As for spending the day looking around Malmo, I would advise that you are better off spending your day looking around Copenhagen!

We took the bus from the square..it's where the opera is, Magazine, and beginning of the walking street..the 99..goes into central Malmo. Very cheap, but then you are trying to get to the airport, so not sure if bus or train would be the best for you. At any rate there are a couple of different ways to go. My neice was living in Copenhagen and loved going to Malmo. We spent most of the day there but were really just in the downtown walking street area, so not sure of what else there is to do. The street was very nice...lots of places to eat, drink, and shop.

Crefloors - the square you are referring to is Kongens Nytorv, and you are correct that there IS a bus to Malmo that departs from there (across the street from Magasin Department store).

Denny - The bus also drops people off at the main train station in Malmo, so either way (bus or train to Malmo) you will still have to find a way to get to Sturup (back to my suggestion of the bus from the main station).

DennyO,

I second the idea of spending your day at Copenhagen. There are luggage stogage boxes at Copenhagen main station on the lower floor. Be prepared to lug your cases up and down a stairway, however.

Your flight for Dublin leaves at 19:20. This means that Ryanair will open its check-in counter at 17:20 and close the flight at 18:40.

There are essentially two ways to get from Copenhagen main station to Malmö airport:

Gråhundbus offers a direct service from the Royal Hotel opposite the tivoli (within walking distance from the main station). It is called Route 737. On sunday it runs:

Copenhagen main station dp 17:30
Malmö airport ar 18:20

one way fare is 100 Danish kronor

Although this bus is said to co-ordinate with Ryanair, I feel somewhat uncomfortable about the 20 minutes slot at Malmö airport, but this is purely my personal problem.

The second way is by Øresund train from Copenhagen main station to Malmö central station and Flygbuss to Malmö airport:

There are trains from Copenhagen main station to Malmö every 20 minutes, departing 03, 23, and 43 minutes past the hour and taking 35 minutes to Malmö. I didn't find the fare for the train online.

On sundays Flygbusses leave Malmö central station for the airport at 17:00 and 17:40 and take about 40 minutes. One way fare is 95 Swedish kroner.

Thus a timetable to keep my nerves relaxed would be:

Copenhagen main station dp 16:03
Malmö station ar 16:38
Malmö station dp 17:00
Malmö airport ar 17:40

All the times quoted are for the timetable valid until June 24. I don't expect that there will be major changes, but I suggest you check the appropriate websites in May, when the new timetables haven been published.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip and cruise.

Phil.
