Copenhagen Suggestions

Hey!

So I'm going to be in Copenhagen for 4 days, 5 nights. Was wondering if someone can tell me the must sees - also any hostel recommendations. I'm traveling with a friend and we're looking to spend roughly $50 a night each (so $100) - not sure if thats feasible.

And also - is it worth taking a day/overnight trip to Sweden. If yes, should you just book a tour or do it yourself. We are def seeing Hamlet's castle so was thinking that could be worked into an overnight trip to sweden...

thanks!

Hi robyn,

Tivoli Gardens is an absolute Must See.

Have you looked up Copenhagen under "Destinations"?

Taking a canal cruise is a good way to see the city.

Hop over to the famous and infamous Christiana - a 'Free City' commune from the 70s and still going... said to be the 2nd most visited site in Copenhagen after Tivoli.

check out Hotwire for deals on hotels. I was able to get a 4 star hotel in Copenhagen for $100 a night.

If the two of you are willing to share a room, you should be able to get a decent hotel room for USD 100, and not need to stay at a hostel.

As for the must see things, Tivoli definitely is an international class attraction that you will want to visit. I suggest spending time there a late afternoon and early evening. http://www.tivoli.dk/composite-3351.htm

You may want to check out when there are live performances at any of the stages in Tivoli and time your visit to include one of those.

The tourist information office in Copenhagen is located on the opposite side of the street from the main Tivoli entrance.

Kronborg Castle is well worth a visit and I understand you are already planning to go there. http://www.ses.dk/en/SlotteOgHaver/Slotte/Kronborg.aspx

You can easily travel up to the castle on trains leaving from Copenhagen central station.

From Helsingør you could take a ferry over to the Swedish city of Helsingborg. There are ferries every ten minute with the journey taking 20 minutes and costing less than USD 5 per person. From Helsingborg you can go by train down to Copenhagen, perhaps stopping in Malmø before crossing over the Øresund bridge to Copenhagen. Several departures per hour from Helsingborg. You can buy tickets for this train journey from the Swedish railway company SJ: http://www.sj.se/.

When it comes to attractions in southern Sweden, I am rather blank. Have not visited that part of Sweden to see sights.

As of other attractions in Copenhagen, I suggest you visit the tourist information office right after you get there, and that you do a bus sightseeing tour of Copenhagen early to get an overview of the city and attractions you may want to explore further.
