Copenhagen-Stockholm or Copenhagen-Oslo?
 

How long by train are either of these trips?<BR><BR>If you had to choose, which would you do?

Can't speak for Oslo, never been. But we flew into Stockholm and took the train to Copenhagen. I think it took about 5 or 5.5 hours. Best part was doing it on a Sunday evening after a full day of walking...bought a picnic of stuff to eat and drink on the train and it was fine. If you do this, it's a bit tricky to get the tickets. It's much cheaper to book the train tix in advance, but you have to pick them up in person, so we asked the concierge at our hotel to handle it for us and fortunately they were very kind and charged us for the tickets, then sent someone to buy them in person. We stayed at the Radisson on Stockholm in case you are wondering. As far as the cities themselves go, we really adored Stockholm and would've like a bit more time there (only spent 2 days), Copenhagen was very nice as well, and more affordable. So on charm alone Stockholm one out, but Copenhagen was lovely as well and filled with so many things to do.

Train takes a bit longer than 5.5 hours when Oresund crossing is factored in (train change at Malmo). But still not too bad with high speed "Signature" trains on the route.<BR><BR>I've also taken the overnight cruise between Copenhagen and Oslo. It was o.k., but Oslo is not as much a destination as Stockholm or Copenhagen.

About the train change in Malmo, depends on timing I think because they told us we might have to change trains there but in the end we didn't have to, which is probably why it was a shorter ride.

I have done Stockholm to Copenhagen by overnight train. If I recall correctly, it was about a 9 hour trip. Stayed on the same train the whole way. When you get to the water to cross between Sweden & Denmark the train cars going to Copenhagen were loaded into the bottom of the ferry, carried across the water & continued on the way on the other side. The trip was very comfortable, but alittle jerky while loading & unloading into the ferry. & it was an eirie feeling when you looked outside the train window & just see the hull of the ship right next to the train, & to know that you are squeezed in to the bottom of a ferry.

Copenhagen - Stockholm..... Both are great cities! We spent 3 days in Copenhagen and 4 days in Stockholm during an 18 days Baltic trip this past July. Stockholm is a marvelous city!

The Oresund Bridge connecting Denmark (near Copenhagen Kastrup Airport) and Sweden (Malmo city) opened last year for car and train traffic.

I would do Stockholm/Copenhagen. I was in all 3 cities this past summer. Stockholm is a prettier city IMO than Oslo. There is more to see and do in Stockholm as well.

PM, it's good of you to have located this thread and the questions certainly still apply. I am also interested because I'm going to Copenhagen and Stockholm right after Christmans this year. Luckily, my neice is living in Copenhagen this year and had been to Stockholm, so she will be my &quot;tour guide&quot; and all it will cost me is a shopping trip to H &amp; M.!!! hmmmm, knowing her, it would be cheaper to hire a guide!!!! LOL

Hi, crefloors. I wish I could take credit for locating this thread, but it was topped by vanefreja. But if it helps you, then I'm glad it's back up. Have you been to Copenhagen or Stockholm before? Copenhagen looks like a city out of a fairy tale. I've only been there in the summer, but I can only imagine how beautiful it would be with snow. Stockholm is equally lovely, unlike any city in the world. I hope you will enjoy your trip.

No, I haven't been to either so I'm excitied. My grandmother was Swedish so nice to see the &quot;family history&quot;. Was really happy to find that Tivoli will still be open for the holidays when I first get there, so that's the first days activities because it closes a couple of days later. I've looked up the average temps for Dec. and Jan, and it's not really a lot colder than here in Reno, BUT, there's the dampness from all the water around the cities, AND, at home here, I'm not out walking around in the cold for any great length of time. But, I'm prepared. Looking to have lots of fun and to eat bread and herring for days!!!!!!! and of course cheese please. (:
