Copenhagen, Stockholm & Bergen April 2018

Hi, I am planning for my first Scandinavia trip next year. I will be bringing my 6 years old Daughter along. Do give me some suggestions on my itinerary

22 April. Arrive Copenhagen ( half day )
23 April, Copenhagen (full day 1)
24 April, Copenhagen ( full day 2)
25 April, Copenhagen (full day 3)
26 April, Copenhagen to Stockholm
27 April, Stockholm
28 April, Stockholm
29 April, Stockholm to Bergen (flight)
30 April, Bergen
1 May, Bergen to Copenhagen (flight)
2 May, Copenhagen back to Singapore

Will it be too much of time spending on travelling ?Should I remove bergen and concentrate on Stockholm and Copenhagen?

Hello Risa:
I would suggest that you skip Bergen and concentrate on Copenhagen and Stockholm. Bergen is a lovely place, and it merits more than one full day. Travel to Bergen in April can also be somewhat of a problem if you're not fond of wind and rain. Bergen is a rainy place, and although April is not the wettest month, you will be getting rain with a cold wind off the water, which still has not warmed from the winter all that much in April. Also, in Bergen, you will be on the North Sea, generally colder than the Baltic off Stockholm and Copenhagen. Bergen is a place where you will want to be outdoors, and if you only have one full day there in April, the likelihood of it being cold and rainy is high. Of course, you can get rainy days in the summer, but it's warmer then. Bergen is great to see for a few days at one end or the other of the Norway in A Nutshell tour which will take you from Oslo to Flåm and Aurlandsfjord and then to Bergen (or the other way around). It's also the case that there is a lot to do for children in both Copenhagen and Stockholm. Some of the most exciting attractions may even be those you wouldn't expect. The highlight of travel to Stockholm for the young child of a friend was exploring the wild art in the Stockholm metro stations.

Norway in a Nutshell loop from Bergen is awesome - I'd suggest maybe cutting Stockholm and concentrating on Copehagen-Oslo-Bergen and NIN loop - the Oslo-Bergen Railway is one of the most scenic in Europe and Oslo has overnight ferries with lots of amenities onboard to Copenhagen. Anyway for lots on Scan trains and ferries, etc check www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

Bergen is nice city but if only flying there and out and nothing else a lot of travel for someplace not that awesome.

Are you sure you can see / experience what you want in Stockholm? Your time there seems very short. If Bergen is a priority, consider shifting a night from Copenhagen to Stockholm.

OR – if Bergen is a priority, consider skipping Copenhagen this trip. Copenhagen is, IMO, delightful – but it is much more easily reached by international airlines than Bergen, so you can get there MUCH more easily on a future trip than visiting Bergen. If you cut Copenhagen from THIS trip, you could see Bergen and perhaps also a bit of Oslo….

I agree that Stockholm deserves more time. I was not particularly impressed with Bergen, and that was in the summer, but kja's suggestion of Stockholm plus Oslo plus Bergen could work. Just don't short change Stockholm.

Went last year to Scandinavia and loved it. Loved Bergen but took off from there for NIN tour of the fjords ending in Oslo. Would not go to Bergen just to go especially with the expense of flying although it was a great little town.

Yes Bergen a nice unique but not awesome town -if not doing fjords NIN excursion I'd forget it and spend more time elsewhere. and the Bergen-Oslo train ride totally awesome.

I think Bergen IS pretty awesome. If you go beyond Bryggen. Great outdoor area, beautiful parts of the city like Sandviken. Awesome art museums with really special collections. Copenhagen doesn't quite cut it for me, too much like lots of Dutch cities. But Stockholm is lovely. So I'd happily cut Copenhagen in favour of Stockholm, and splitting the Norway time between Oslo and Bergen. With a spectacular train ride in between. Mind you, April is early, for Norway, and even in Bergen the snow will just be melting. But I've hiked up to Mt Fløyen in mid april, with decent weather, but snowy and it was lovely. Just dress appropriately for the weather.

And from Bergen you can take a bus a few miles south to see the corpse of the famous Bogman found here and now in a museum by a popular beach area.

Are you sure? That's Denmark, not Norway. I suppose you mean Tollund man? And the Tollund Man Museum in Silkeborg.

PalenQ, really.
