Copenhagen Short Stay
 

We have only a day and a half in Copenhagen as a stopover. We would like to find a good hotel near to the train station and Tivoli for two nights. Most important objective is to find large (preferably King) size bed in clean and pleasant surroundings. Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

For a large bed, go with the Marriott. Only a couple of blocks from the train station.

Thank you travelgourmet. Your idea is good, but I am challenged by Marriott Copenhagen website when all I can get in mid June starts at about USD 800 per night with no lock in rates for any lesser price. As a Marriott Honored Guest cardholder I attempted to do better by contacting the hotel direct. I note however that this particular hotel goes to great pains not to reveal its email address. I thought I should write this as I then waited for over 10 minutes for someone to answer the international telephone reservation line - LOL. Now they have answered and told me that they only have suites available starting at DKK 3,049. Oh well I tried. Maybe I should try to get a room for less than DKK 1000 on Expedia or one of the other intermediaries. Such is life during a global financial crisis in 2009.

Last summer, when we visited Copenhagen, the prices of hotel rooms were also unreasonably high, so we booked a room in Malmo, a city on the Swedish side of the Oresund Bridge. It's not exactly what you're looking for, I know, but with trains going every twenty minutes, it shouldn't be a problem to get to the center of Copenhagen.

I am most grateful for your comment arjana because it reminded me that the airport is also on the rail link close to Copenhagen. As we are arriving from Sweden and leaving by air for Pisa it really makes sense to stay at an airport hotel. So, if anyone has knowledge of which is currently the best Copenhagen airport hotel than please let us know. Thanks again.

We are headed off into Germany so we may just have to travel on a little way or do what other Fodorites have recommended and take pot luck with the US $ 100 fixed price deals that often achieve a king size bed at the Marriott. LOL

The best, really only, airport hotel is the Hilton. Don't know much about it though. Wonder what is going on that the Marriott is that expensive?

If you're interested in the Marriott, have you tried Priceline? Deals can often be had for $100-$120Us plus taxes per night. A big savings over the quoted rates, certainly. It seems to be a very common winning bid for the past year or so for Copenhagen. You aren't guaranteed, of course, but all of the hotels in that category would be of similar standard and central location.

Priceline used to have a Copenhagen airport zone, but it's not used anymore. It's a general Copenhagen zone now.

I stayed at the HOTEL THE SQUARE. It is very euro-modern and is right on the main square, walkable to about everything. I am not sure what the rates are at this time, but it would meet your requirements. I walked with my rolling luggage to the train station.
