COPENHAGEN or STOCKHOLM for 4-5 days?

Getting on a cruise starting in STOCKHOLM early July 2016 and ending 10 days later in COPENHAGEN. We have an extra 6 days available on this trip. Can someone please recommend where we should spend the majority of these days, in either Stockholm or Copenhagen and why?
We are interested in architecture, museums, old towns, food, fashion etc and like to "walk" cities.

Half will say Copenhagen the other half Stockholm - you can't go wrong - I am more familiar with Copenhagen and it has all the prerequisites you want - lots of nice easy day trips by train.

Does it have to be only these two capitals? Aero island in Denmark is an idyllic island that preserves an old style village. Odense with everything Andersen as well as Funen open air museum nearby that preserves traditional Funen island buildings.

Only you can choose, and to do that, you would do well to consult some good guidebooks (always a worthy investment, IME, but you can also go to a library) and see what most appeals to you. FWIW, I think Stockholm is easily worth 5 full days (counting a day trip on the archipelago). I think Copenhagen more easily seen in about 3 days (counting a day trip to Roskilde). Both should meet your interests, but with those interests, I'd give the nod to Stockholm. JMO.

Both are lovely - enjoy!

Both cities are wonderful and it would be easy to spend time in either one. If it were me I would do half in each and then determine which you want to go back to for further exploration.

They are both lovely cities. Both great walking cities. We enjoyed both equally I must say. Nice daytrips from both. We stayed on Aero Island for a few days and am really glad we did. Can you split it three and three to get a taste for each city? That is probably what I would do.

What PalenQ said , but why not do this.

Come 3 days earlier to Stockholm before you embark....and then spend the remaining 3 days in Copenhagen after the disembark.

"Can you split it three and three to get a taste for each city?"

That could, indeed, be a great solution! But FWIW, I detest "tasting" itineraries! I hate spending time in transit unnecessarily. And I doubt that I will actually ever return to almost anywhere -- there are simply too many places I want to see in this world, and I have too little time to see all those places, so saying to myself that I'm "just" tasting so I can return is, I know in my heart, not likely to be true. So difficult as it is -- and it is difficult! -- I prefer to identify my priorities, match them to my available time, and then commit to what fits best, even if it means completely skipping something that I'm sure I would enjoy. And if you put all your time at one side of the cruise, you could move on if you find that you really aren't enjoying where you are. Just my opinion -- YMMV.

I think 3 days in each city is a good idea. Stockholm will have the edge in the beauty stakes and it is a great city to visit in the summer, it has a prettier old town than Copenhagen. Copenhagen is much better for food though, with some great restaurants and I prefer the shopping there, it does have an old town, old fortifications etc. Since you are doing a cruise, I suppose you will be passing through the archipelago and you might not want/need a separate daytrip? If you split the time between the 2 cities, you probably won't have time for daytrips.
