Copenhagen One Day Trip
 

Hi there ... I need some help!<BR><BR>I'll be in Copenhagen for one day - arriving around 10am, leaving around 7pm. <BR><BR>I'm NOT into museums, but would love to visit the royal palace. <BR><BR>Any other suggestions - any places I must visit? <BR><BR>Thanks!

If your times are airport arrival and departure, you will have about six hours in Copenhagen. The SAS shuttle will get you to the train station (near Tivoli Gardens) in about twenty minutes. <BR>Christiansborg Slot or Palace is OK, not special. We found the ruins of the older castles below the current palace (about a hundred years old) to be more interesting. You don't say when you will be there. But, if I had six hours, I would wander the Stroget (historic street) from the Radhuspladsen (City Hall Square) The Radhus itself has fine views from the top Focus on the side streets to Nyhaven. Roam Nyhaven and take a one hour harbor cruise here. Then continue along the haborside from Nyhaven to Amalienborg Palace (where the Royal Family resides). Catch the changing of the gaurd if possible (only when the Queen is in residence; at noon). Continue along harbor to The Little Meremaid. Again, not special, but you can't say you have been to Copenhagen if you haven't seen it. Walk back through the Kastellet Park (Citidal) and past the Gafion Fountain returning to Nyhaven. Turn right (North) on Gothersgade to Roseborg Castle (you can see the spires from the street). This one is worth seeing. There are cafes all along the way. If you have time, try Riz-Raz, a vegetarian buffet with a fine array of hot and cold food. Anyone can point you to it just one block off Stroget. Most places are open May through October. Depending on time of year, you might take a quick walk through Tivoli just below Radhusplsdsen. Do this first and then as much of the walk as you have time for. This should do your six hours with time to return for your departure. All in all a fun City. Too bad you won't be there longer.

The above covers it! To add on: if you're interested in food.... try to have lunch at some place that serves open-faced sandwiches (as only done by the Danes) ... accompanied by beer and schnapps... it's quite tradtional and absolutely delightful.

There is a train from the airport to Central Station that runs every 10-15 minutes or so. Fare is about $2.75 if I recall correctly. Trip takes 12 minutes. Once you clear Customs and Immigration, just follow the signs to Ground Transport. Get some kroner from an ATM and purchase a 2 zone ticket from one of the self-serve kiosks on the train platform--very easy. From Central Station, Tivoli is just across the street. Go left and you will enter the Stroget pedestrian shopping district. The above suggestions are good--just wanted to help you get your bearings before arrival.

Went there last year so can't remember it all, but I do recall the main street ~~(Stroget?) being only about 20mins from the airport. Could have remebered wrong... The prices were quite high
