Copenhagen Hotels
 

We would appreciate any suggestions for a well-located hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark. We prefer central or historic center of city in the US $150-200 range, also any suggestions on hotels in Reykjavik, Iceland. Thanks for any input. We will be going in April over Easter so I need to act quickly.

I would suggest the Ascot Hotel.<BR><BR>http://www.dkhotellist.com/ascot/<BR><BR>I stayed there for a week last summer and while not 5 stars by any stretch, it was clean, comfortable and well located. The staff was also most helpful.<BR>

I stayed in a fabulous hotel last spring called 71 Nyhavn. (You can find it by plugging this address the word Copenhagen into Google.) It's a converted warehouse down by the waterfront. It's very central (about a 5 minute walk to the main shopping street) and adjacent to a very lifely street cafe scene. Very safe, very clean. The hotel and my room were beautiful decorated, if a little small (and with low ceilings). (If there are two of you, you'll probably want a room that's a little bigger than the least expensive room they have.) When I asked the receptionist for a restaurant recommendation for a reasonably priced &quot;birthday celebration dinner&quot; for a woman dining alone, he sent me to exactly the right place. This hotel is one of the top 2 or 3 on my list of favourite hotels in the world (I think the 5+ star hotel in St Petersburg might beat it, but that hotel cost about $500 more than this one.) I can't remember the exact price, but I think it's well within your range. Have fun. I loved Copenhagen (I visited there about the same time you did last year.)

KateW's suggestion of Nyhavn 71 is good. It's a nice hotel . . . some of the rooms have more &quot;charm&quot; than others. I think it has to do with the Standard - Superior rating. My room had beamed cielings and a view of the harbour.<BR><BR>I also like the Kong Frederick. It's in the center of town (Nyhavn is about a mile or a little more from the center of town). The restaurants in both the Nyhavn 71 and Kong Frederick are wonderful. Both have gobs of atmosphere, although some of the rooms at the KF are on the older side -- not shabby.<BR><BR>Having said that, I stay almost exclusively at the Radisson Scandinavia which is about a mile from the center of town. It's a business hotel, but I like the lobby bar there and the Casino. When it is full I stay at the Radisson Royal which IS in the center of town. Both are in your price range, again, both are business hotels.

Look at Copenhagen Admiral Hotel, Toldbodgade 24-28. www.admiralhotel.dk<BR>1780's protected building, originally a granary, thick brick walls, original large pine beams -- hallway on our floor at least had the original arches of the granary. Asked for &amp; got a room that looked out onto the Ferry dock. Like 71 Nyhavn it is not &quot;down town&quot; but a short walk to Nyhavn. Copenhagen is very walkable &amp; we walked to &amp; from hotel all over the city. Rooms were large and had area for chairs/sofa/ coffee table (all modern beautiful Danish furniture). Staff was excellent.

Try the Danmark. Excellent location, clean and comfortable with good breakfast buffet and easy walking distance to everything. Bus stop right in front. Search Hotel Danmark. They have a website.

Thanks BeeGee, Kate W, Snoopy, and MHS for several great-sounding hotels. I will investigate tonight. It is really remarkable that within two hours of question so many good suggestions were offered. I had looked at a couple already, but couldn't tell from the offered descriptions if they were what I was looking for. Last year I posed the same question about Munich and the suggested hotel, Torbrau, was perfect for us. It made the trip, so I am very grateful for this year's replies. Thanks again.
