I am having a little anxiety travel issue. I leave for Copenhagen on Wednesday. My husband and I wanted to avoid taking the taxi from the airport to our hotel, which is near the Tivoli gardens. (We have read that it is expensive.) Since Central Station is also near our hotel, we were going to take the train. I was on the train website to see what are the name of the stops and I found it very hard to maneuver the site.

What I am trying to ask in a long winded way is what would be the best way to get from the Airport to the Central Station (near Tivoli gardens)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

P.S. How expensive is expensive to take taxi’s in Copenhagen in case this train thing doesn’t work.

There is a train that runs from the airport to the downtown train station that is right across from Tivoli gardens. It has been a couple of years but I seem to remember the trains running about every 15-20 minutes and it took 15minutes to get to the downtown trainstation. Ask in the airport and they can direct you. Tickets are available from a window in the hall on the way from the airport gates to the train platform.

As recommended above..it is an easy trip from the airport (Kastrup) to the central station.

Ask someone at the ticket window at CPH.

NO need for any sort of reservations.

The central station is directly across the street from one of the Tivoli entrances; which hotel are you actually staying in?

As a follow-on..taxis are metered in Copenhagen but you've chosen the cheapest mode for transport and one of the easist. There really isn't any way your choice won't work.

there is a metro line and a train going to the center of Copenhagen.
I was there two weeks ago and the move was easy and efficient.
I cannot imagine that unless you arrive at a very late hour you will have a problem.

Which hotel, specifically, are you staying at? Depending which side of Tivoli (and how near is near), you could be looking at a long walk from the station.

The main station is called København H. There are pretty frequent trains from the airport, so it isn't a bad option. The metro also runs to the airport, but it puts you quite a distance from Tivoli.

The easiest way to get precise directions would be to go to this website:

You can click on the UK flag for English. On the 'Find your journey' tab, type in Kastrup Lufthavn into the 'From' box. Then put the name of the hotel into the 'To' box (if it doesn't recognize the hotel, put in the address). Select your date and time, and you will get a list of options, including walking directions from the nearest station or bus stop.

That being said, obviously a taxi would be more convenient, as it would bring you door to door. I would suspect that the taxi should run you around DKK 200, depending upon the hotel. The train ride will cost you DKK 30 per person, unless you get a klipkort, which is a multi-ride ticket.

You could also buy a Copenhagen Card at the airport, which gives you unlimited use of all public transportation in and around Copenhagen. 24 hour card is 199 DKK, and 72-hour card is 429 DKK. It also gives you discounts to 60 tourist sites. You may not save a significant amount of money, but it was worth it to me not to have to try to decipher the clipcard and zone system. We just got on the bus or train we needed to take and waved our Copenhagen cards. Just Google Copenhagen Card. I think the site is www.visitcopenhagen.com.

Thanks travelgourmet for the station name. It makes it easier to use the find your journey website. Annam thanks for the tip on the copenhagen card, I didn't think it would be included for trains just metros and buses. Now there is one more reason to get one.

The COPENHAGEN CARD sounds like a "good idea."

I am going to buy one at the COPENHAGEN Airport for my upcoming trip.

Usually I would just jump into a cab from the airport to my hotel, but after "reading about the options" for COPENHAGEN, it really sounds so "easy" and FAST to attempt the METRO From CPH to closest stop to my hotel.

The thought of 'schlepping' A SUITCASE after a long flight on public transportation, & tying to figure out directions, was never an activity I would ordinarily do, but AFTER READING about arriving in CPH, and how easy it seems, I may GO FOR IT.

I just have to figure out exactly how many blocks my hotel is from the metro stop to be sure I am not too far for my convenience.


We will have to compare notes.

Trend Girl: It is relatively easy to take public transport to and from the airport, but you are still most definitely taking public transport to and from the airport. And all the hassles are still there. Moreover, traffic isn't that bad, so usually,I just take a cab or drive.

The debate of bringing the luggage on public transport is my only concern for my whole two weeks in Scandinavia. In the past I was like you TrendGirl2, I always took taxis or car service to the hotel. The only reason I debated mass transit was because it was expensive but based on travelgourmet's comments it seems that it wasn't as expensive as I thought. My husband and I figured we would play it by ear when we get there.

I wouldn't get too excited about the relatively affordable taxi fares, you'll end up paying through the nose for plenty of other things in Copenhagen. Don't quote me on the DKK 200, but I think it is about right. I live on the other side of downtown and am trying to guesstimate the savings since you won't be going as far.

Remember that you don't really need to tip. And the cabs take credit cards, but this comes with a transaction fee of 1 or 2%. Completely off-topic, but important to note, you will see a similar transaction fee of maybe 4% if you use a foreign credit card at restaurants.

If is compelling to save money, but NOT IF IT BECOMES Too stressful.


I will end up deciding when I arrive at CPH if I want to "deal with the METRO ADVENTURE."
If I am too exhausted FROM THE FLIGHT, or stressed out upon arrival, THE CAB will be way to go.

Yes, I heard about the transaction fees common at the restaurants for CREDIT CARDS.

I am sure everything will "come together" when I arrive at CPH.

Yes, take the train. I lived in KBH for 20-plus years of summers and was SO happy when they built the train system that goes straight from the airport to Hovedbanegaard...main train station. When you walk into the train station, after getting off the train coming from the airport, then the side doors ,to your right, will lead to Tivoli which will be right across the street. It's extremely easy. I wouldn't take a taxi. They're expensive. Happy Travels!

I will be staying in different location from Nuttela.....

When trying to figure out which METRO Stop to take(myself) from Airport train station to My hotel, it seems that I would get off at the NORREPORT STOP?

If you are familiar with the area, I will be on KRYSTALGADE St.-( HOTEL SKT.PETRI) Do you happen to know about how many city blocks away the METRO stop is from that location?

Or a 5 minute walk, a 10 minute walk?
I am not concerned about walking a few blocks to the hotel, but don't want to deal with "hiking" to my hotel with the suitcase for a 20 minute walk.

Just plug in Kastrup Lufthavn for the departure and the hotel address for the arrival and it will give you full directions, including walking directions.

For the Hotel Skt. Petri, you would, indeed, get off at Nørreport station. The hotel is less than half a km from the station, so you should only have to walk maybe 5 minutes.

27 is a great hotel. Fantastic cocktails in the bar (and the Ice Bar next to the hotel). Great breakfast too. Simple clean rooms.
I don't know how long the walk from the station is; I think the station is on the other side of Tivoli from where the hotel is.
There are some excellent restaurants in Tivoli; not your usual thema park places.
