COPENHAGEN-a terrific VIST
COPENHAGEN VISIT WAS GREAT!
Thanks for all the "shared information" received on this board.
The city of COPENHAGEN was so easy to navigate. Walking everywhere was enjoyable and the weather was GREAT.
Arriving at the airport and then taking the Metro directly from the airport to NORREPORT station was so simple. I purchased the "CPH" COPENHAGEN CARD at the visitory center at the Copenhagen airport, which was well worth it!
It was easy, "user friendly" and fortunatley a very short walk to my hotel from the station.
We stayed in the Latin Quarter which was the perfect location for us.
Location on KRYSTALGADE, was great.
I Liked:
DANISH NATIONAL GALLERY
Statens Museum for KUNST(*excellent collection of MATISSE WHICH I LOVE!)
NY Carlsberg GLYPTOTEK
AMALIENBORG Palace
ROSENBORG CASTLE-the surrounding Park was great "people watching" and much to see inside the castle.
DFDS CANAL TOURS- really relaxing, and being on the water was so enjoyable. We took 1 from GAMMEL STRAND location, and another canal ride on a different day from NYHAVEN.
Walking around the city was part of the enjoyment. The people were friendly.
FOOD:
Although touristy, we did enjoy eating at IDA Davidsen For the "SMORREBROD" Experience. it was delicious, and ROYAL CAFE was enjoyable to experience.
Every Single day we ate Herring and Smoked salmon. It was always wonderful.
Favorite "Square" - GRABRODRE TORV.
*had a fun dinner at PEDER OXE.
another day ate Bof & Ost. The food was "just OK" but it was a nice atmosphere to sit and enjoy our wine,& people watch. People were extremely friendly.
OUTSIDE OF COPENHAGEN: DAY TRIP Was terrific to FREDERIKSBORG CASTLE, & Kronborg Castle.
A beautiful ride along the coastline with Marinas, thatched roof homes, flowers, and scenery.
DANISH JODISK MUSEUM-Designed by Daniel Libeskind. See the film regarding the rescue of the Danish Jews during WWII.
All in all, it was nice to experience Another part of EUROPE, and a good destination for a short trip.

Happy that you had such a good time In Copenhagen...it was a pleasure sharing some ideas with you before you left. Sorry you missed "Louisiana"..but it's a good excuse to visit again in the future.
Keep on travelin"...remember my motto!
Where to next?

Copenhagen was certainly expensive, as was Aarhus. We stayed in a youth hostel in Copenhagen, and even that was over $100 per night. It was quite acceptable though.
In Aarhus, we stayed at the Cab Inn, which was teensy but had everything we needed. I think that was $105 per night.
I wouldn't consider either of those expensive for a regular hotel, but for a youth hostel and a really tiny room, it was a touch expensive.
Don't get me wrong. We really enjoyed both places and would stay there again, especially the Cab Inn, which I understand also has a hotel in Copenhagen.
We loved Denmark.

Glad you had a great time. I lived in Copenhagen for 20-plus years of summers and loved every minute of it..except the weather....Smiles. And as far as it being expensive, trust me, it's always been expensive. Happy Travels!

COPENHAGEN does not have "the WOW-Factor" of Paris, Rome, Barcelona, etc."
But, it was worth a visit.
The people are very warm and friendly.
It was a "feel-good" type of destination.
Not as much intense sight-seeing as other destinations I have gone to, which was a GOOD THING for this trip. It was nice to soak up the local flavor at leisure.
TO OINCHAT: YES!!!!!Very expensive!
From what I understand, Scandinavia in general has always been more expensive then many other European destinations.
But it should not prevent you from visiting.
If you go: a Fun experience: Definitely rent a bicycle for a little as a few hours during your stay. It is so cool to explore parts of the city as the COPENHAGEN natives do. Their are various bicycle rental places in different locations around the city.
Believe me, I am No Lance Armstrong ON A Bike, but it was very easy to ride the bicycle for a few hours 1 morning. Plus, it was a good way to "work off those extra calories" after eating all the "DANISH" every morning, then eating decadent deserts at La Glace!
Everyone rides bicyles in COPENHAGEN!
Everyone is THIN, & Blonde.
It seemed to me the people live very well in DENMARK.
Just recently there was an article in the NY Times I believe, that people in COPENHAGEN are some of the HAPPIEST PEOPLE.
Also loved:
> Cafe Victor- the outside cafe was very chi chi and fun.
> Cafe Klimt-fun later in the night.
Didn't make it to Nomma, our dinning was more casual this trip, however it is supposed to be AMAZING.
Favorite Boutiques:
Paris-Texas-fun fashion.
Birger Christianson Outlet store(Copenhagen Airport)
STORM!!-
Very directional, with cutting edge fashion. Yes.........it will remind Paris fashionistas of COLETTE, But on a mush smaller scale.
I am not a big fan of DANISH DESIGN Furniture & Home furnishings, but their were many unique and special stores selling Danish Design.
Tivoli was not for me, But I was not surprised as an AMUSEMENT Park just "doesn't thrill me" as a destination.
I would not have been happy if I had to stay in that location though.
Louisiana Museum: PASSED it on the WAY TO HELSINGOR & FREDERIKSBORG Castle....got to quickly see the grounds. I am sure I would have enjoyed that, but NOT in the schedule for this trip.Instead, decided to do CASTLES!
The Copenhagen Jazz Festival had many venues at different locations around the city during my visit. that was a real treat.
Next(Europe trip)BUDAPEST.

Yes the Danes are some of the happiest people in the world. In my view ( and I am trying to stay as apolitical as possible) alot of this happiness has to do with the Danish social net that includes almost free health care and hospitalization as well as free or minimal cost schooling through college plus liveable pensions Once you do not have to worry about these huge financial burdens and you also get 5-6 weeks vacation each year I would guess most of us would be happy also. Yes, there is a heavy tax burden but this is the system the Danes have chosen for themselves.
