Copenhagen

We will arrive by train for our first visit of three days so are seeking the best hotel within walking distance offering at least 4 star accomodation, large beds and a memorable stay. Any ideas greatly appreciated ? Thank you

IMO, the Skt. Petri is currently Copenhagen's best hotel - a contemporary designer's dream. 100 meters from the train station and right in downtown, in the university district.

Seems a bit WESTERN. Is there anything more Danish and a little less gliteratti and cocktail bar set ?

I do not want to be the smart ass, but Denmark is world-famous for its designers, and Skt. Petri is 100% Danish design. You will see that the rooms are quite unusual.

LOL.. traveller1959, I am glad you said it first.
When I checked the website of the hotel, my first thought was "Wow, very DANISH". But maybe the OP is looking for something more hyggelig.. :-)

Sorry I will start again and look for what is unusual about the hotel - maybe I am not so interested in avant-garde Danish design or the upfront stereotyped marketing of cocktail bars, sheet threadcount etc. Probably that is because our own cocktails are second to none as are our sheets - LOL. It was really not the design I was commenting on but rather the culture of the hotel portrayed by the images and marketing hype on the website. I am happy to be told that I have misinterpreted the culture of the establishment and I am not an OP.

I'm afraid that you won't have much luck. Most of the 4-star and up hotels will sport either a similar vibe, or will be some variation on business travel standard.

You might try the Admiral Hotel though, which has a bit more rustic design to it. Or the SAS Royal, which is more classic - BUT the rooms are very small.

Good_Will: you are the OP (original poster of this thread). If you take that as an insult, you are mistaken. Does that abbreviation have a different meaning where you are?
