I suggest you take the train to Orestad station, then take the metro train to Christianshavn, a very picturesque part of Copenhagen. Take a stroll by the canals, have a coffee at one of the cafes, see the churches and go up the tower of Vor Frelser Church, where you will have a nice view of Copenhagen.
The train ride will be 15 min each way.
If you don't feel like doing anything the Copenhagen airport is actually quite nice, but maybe 5 hours is a bit much...
Enjoy your very short stay in Copenhagen!

And if going to Christainshavn pop into Christiana, if it's still there, one of Europe's still thriving 1970s communes - still a showcase of alternative lifestyles - weird housing, nice restaurants, pubs - a really extraordinary place - nothing like it in all of Europe, warts and all!

At the airport just go downstairs and take the train into downtown Copenhagen. The downtown train station is right across the street from Tivoli. You could have a bite to eat, stroll around, go on a few of their rides and still get back to the airport on time. It is best at night with all the lights but daytime is fun also.
If you like museums more, the National Museum and the Gyptotek are both with in a 10 minute walk of the downtown train station.

keep in mind that it has, on more than one occasion, taken me more than 15-20 minutes to buy a train ticket at copenhagen airport (long, disorganised queues around the ticket kiosk). you can pay by card but you also may want to get cash for other costs. as is often the case, the quoted train times are very misleading and do not taken waiting times into account...never mind the few minutes it will take to find the train and just get your bearings in a place where presumably you have never been. i would plan for at least 45 minutes to an hour to get yourself into the city centre....with the stopwatch starting AFTER you clear passport control (which can take 20+ minutes for a non EU PP holder). you, of course, also need to go back through once get back to the airport so save time for that as well.

I was thinking about the last post and how much time it would take to get downtown. The airport in Copenhagen is located outside the city. It is only a mile or so from the little harbor town of Dragor. One main street, cobblestone of course, running along the harbor. Maybe you should just take a cab to Dragor. We ate at a fantastic restaurant on the corner of the main street. Wonderful little shops, thatched roofed cottages, and on the other end of the main street the most wonderful homemade ice cream shop-- it was called Yum Yum or something like that. Dragor is very charming and I would think less than a 10 minute cab ride from the airport.
