I hear you bvlenci - we tend to travel to Europe in winter and the first thing we do upon arrival in our accommodation is turn the heat off. Yes, off. And we often still feel too warm. I don't get the overheating thing any more than Europeans get the cooling thing.

We live in Italy, which I find to be less overheated than what I experienced in Paris, and not only in the apartment, but in shops, restaurants, and museums.

I find those quilts / duvets too hot and take them out, sleeping under the sheet cover only. The hotel rooms seem so warm, even in autumn.
I put the quilt / duvet in the wardrobe and tidy the bed, so housekeeping don’t put it back in.

We always find restaurants, stores and apartments hot in Europe in the winter. We never turned ours on except in bathroom at the lowest setting. In Munich, I had no control so opened a window in both hotels. It was fine. Now I want to see if my London windows will open.
