cool summer weather
A friend who has never been to Europe is interested in booking a one-week trip soemwhere in Europe this summer. He asked me for advice on where to travel, with the stipulation that he'd like to be someplace that isn't too hot. Any ideas?

Scandinavia. Have been several times in the summer and for me the weather is glorious - in the low/mid 70's during the day and light sweater weather at night.
England and Ireland are usually also reasonably cool - thought not so reliable as Scandinavia. |
Add Scotland to the list. Perfect summer vacation place -- wonderful scenery, generally cooler weather. wonderful sights. The only thing to remember is that the British Isles and Ireland might be rainy, too. But worth the risk, and I really would recommend Scotland for a nice trip. Maybe 3 days around Edinburgh, 3-4 days in the Highland area. Just a general idea. Anyway, I'm sure you'll have a lot of good suggestions.

Thanks. Both ideas sound good. I will pass the info along.

The Alps. Get enough elevation and it will not be hot.

I also hate the heat!
Ireland is always a good destination if you don't like HOT. Five consecutive days of heat and sunshine without rain is reason for celebration. There are many destinations in Europe he could consider. Perhaps you should advise him to establish secondary and tertiary criteria. Does he golf? Does he want to visit cities or the countryside? Does he like the mountains or the sea? |
