Cool hikes in Bavaria?

Family of 4 with 2 teens going to Bavaria next summer. We'd like to do some hiking that might lead somewhere interesting...a castle, cool town, etc....beyond just nature hiking. We did the Cinque Terre hike in Italy and loved that. Any suggestions for Bavaria?

You're kidding? There's really no limit in the number of interesting hikes, weather it's a celtic grave or a quaint town... You must pick an area/town first, and it better don't be Füssen or another of those touristy areas.

If you can understand German, this is a great site.

If not it's still useful with it's maps.

This one's VERY nice. But it's not that it's anyway close to a complete list.

logos999,

I believe near Kelheim there is Benedictine monastery - Weltenburg Abbey where you can stop for food and some incredible beer. Stopped there in 1998 I think. The exact date escapes me. I remember the bread was excellent.

Yes, the Abbey at Weltenburg, Riedenburg (Great Beer) and towns like Beilngries the whole area up to the Walhalla is highly recommended. So close to Munich, a beautiful landscape yet unbelievably inexpensive too!
