Scarlett, that cat was a stray, so we named him Wandering Angus. As cats will do, he chose our house for his new residence and we were incapable of resisting. He is a charmer.
Ginny, I couldn't remember which side of rue de l'Église your street was on. Then it dawned on me that of course I knew it. My elementary school was two streets away on rue Green. This is so funny. We probably stood within 10 feet of each other at some point, such as a QHS-St. Pat's football game or perhaps watching the parade during the winter carnival.

My husband, Anselm, is a lovely man and a wonderful writer, but spelling isn't his strong suit. Gus's proper name is Wandering Aengus, after the hero in the poem by Yeats, The Song of Wandering Aengus, which has the closing lines:
And pluck till time and times are done,
The silver apples of the moon,

Anselm,
I'm smiling as I write this. Your school was one street over from Richard Turner and I could see it from our front porch. I attended all the QHS-St.Pat's games because my boyfriend was on the team and, dare I say, I was a cheerleader.
Indeed, our paths must have crossed.

Anselm, we were looking at cameras again today-my husband is having a hard time deciding between the Nikon D70 and the new Cannon that is comparable..D30.
I will perhaps borrow Angus and use him for a model?

When we got our second cat, I thought of calling him O'Driscoll after the man in "The Host of the Air" who dreamed of "the long dim hair of Bridget his bride." But the kitten had already been named Travis by the staff at the vet, and you can't take away a cat's name, though you can add to it, so he became Travis McGee--from a completely different literary tradition.
I will leave it to Anselm to respond about cameras

Ginny, two things come to mind. One is the immense power of the internet. Twenty years ago I would not have dreamed of "talking" through space to someone who was once an unknown neighbour. It is almost unbelievable. The second is that I have been awash in memories of living in Quebec City as a child. Notwithstanding my teasing the baker in the 12th, I feel myself very fortunate to have grown up in that society.
Scarlett, I didn't really look at the Canon, so I can't compare the two. I will say that I saw an immediate improvement in my photos once I started to use the D70 (I believe it's called a D70s now). You can point and shoot the second you take it out of the box, but it's custom features are also immensely powerful. As wonderful as that is, I have found it a very steep learning curve. And just when you think you are getting comfortable with the camera, you then have to learn how to edit.

Yes, my husband is familiar with the old SLR Nikons, but digital is a whole new ballgame. He has been researching for a while, speaking camera speak these days...sigh. And he said much the same thing, that he is going to be hogging the computer with his camera..
I think a laptop is in my future
I am hoping with the new camera will come the need to take a Photo-taking Trip ~

smalti, thanks so much. It's easier to write about a place when motivated by passion. I'm in Beijing at the moment, and while I aim to write a report for the Asia board when we get back, it will be based on fascination and amazement rather than joy.

I just wanted to express the sheer pleasure I have received from reading your posts. You evoked all my senses. I'm planning my first trip to Paris and Venice for Feb/March next year, and you have inspired me to broaden my reading. I'm also a keen amateur photographer, so I eagerly opened your link. Simply stunning and emotive.
