Cooking Schools in Tuscany

My aunt gave my uncle an IOU for his birthday to do a week long cooking school in Italy (I think he would prefer Tuscany). They are going to be in Italy with my parents on a tour in September and would like to add on a week of cooking school. Has anyone gone to one that you can recommend? I had seen an article in the Chicago Tribune several years ago, but I can't seem to find it now. I've gotten good recommendations from this board in the past, so I'm counting on some good ones for them :-)!

Look at classified ads at slowtrav.com to find several. The real thing is at www.tuscanwomencook.com

One of the most famous Tuscan schools is the one at Badia e Coltibuono winery. You can see listings of culinary and other types of schools around the world on www.shawguides.com.

There are so many schools and so many different prices - I am amazed at what some people are willing to pay!!

As soon as I can in the next 2/3 weeks I am going up to see a friend of a friend of mine who gives lessons both in and out of Florence - you could write to her and get details ([email protected]) if you want to have another option to choose from.

You can stay at Villa Bordoni www.villabordoni.com and they have cooking classes - it's very upscale and, I suppose, expensive. You can stay at Casa Mezzuola www.mezzuola.com (actually very close to Villa Bordoni) and the owner can organise cooking lessons at an Antinori restaurant near Badia a Passignano, not far away. You taste a range of Antinori wines when you eat the meal you've prepared.

Thanks so much for all of these great suggestions. Now I'm just jealous that these are not ideas for me ;-)!

We used http://www.theinternationalkitchen.com, I believe they are out of Chicago. We went to In terre di Toscana. We had a great time. You stay on the chef's farm in his cottages. He also owns a fine dining restaurant in town. Cook in the morning and then eat everything you make for lunch. There was always way too much food. And it was all delicious!

My daughter went to a fantastic one--www.sienacookingculture.com
If he goes, tell Elizabetha that Erin sent him!
