Cooking classes in or near Rome
 

This is for a friend who is planning a spring trip to Rome while her daughter is studying abroad there. She would like to take a cooking class, thought I do not know if she is thinking several days or just a one day experience. I would be interested in any recommendations from anyone who has done this recently.

I have not done this yet, but hope to when I'm there in May - something to get you started, at least. This class gets stellar reviews on TripAdvisor. I emailed the chef for more information; the price will be €65 in 2011, with an optional €20 wine pairing for each course. He starts taking bookings 45 days before your class.

I know this is late as a reply, but I thought I'd share my wonderful cooking experience near Rome. I took a cooking class with Convivio Rome (www.conviviorome.com) last month with 3 other friends. They are located in a stunning medieval village only 40 minutes from Rome by direct train. The cooking class was fun, fully hands-on and the ingredients were sourced from local organic farmers. We tasted local olive oil and cheese during the class. Plenty of regional wine was included. After the class, lunch was taken in a charming 15th century wine cellar. This was followed by a mini-tour of the village (Toffia) and a nearby ancient monastery (Farfa). They picked us up and dropped us off at the local station. It was a wonderful day out in the country, a taste of authentic Italy and a culinary delight!
