Cooking class ASAP

We are going to Italy in 3 weeks and my family just said they want to give me a cooking class in Italy for my birthday-I get to arrange it! I'm looking for a one day or one afternoon class. Will be in Florence mid September for a couple days, but also staying in Umbria for 2 weeks and could drive someplace for the day. HELP
Any good suggestions or websites?

Just heard about a cooking school in or near Florence, run by an American woman (with Italian husband). Check out www.divinacucina.com. Heard the woman on a local (San Francisco) food program, she's been doing it for a long time, has one day, two day, and five day programs.

Dear Leslie,

I went to a cooking school in Spello (3 days), associated with the Hotel Palazzo Bocci. Claudio, the chef, was a good cook, was very kind and he obviously LOVED his work. But I didn't enjoy it as much as the one in Rapallo (near Portofino). We stayed at the Excelsior Palace Hotel (gorgeous), and the cooking school was about a half an hour away in San Massimo. This one was 2 days, and Fausto Oneto put us to work, chopping herbs, kneading bread, stirring the polenta, etc. He was such a doll, and it was fun. For just a one-day thing, however, your best bet may be to contact Allessandra Angelucci at the Villa Pambuffetti in Montefalco. She gives cooking lessons and they are supposed to be great.

Sandy

Just read your post and couldnt believe that you were interested in a 1 day cooking class on your birthday. I have been researching for some time the same thing. I just signed up for a class outside of Siena with Tuscan Way. I will be there on my birthday! Their website is www.tuscanway.com. Not until Oct. so I cant recommend it first hand, but it looks great. Good luck.
