Converter for Cell Phone Charger

I have a fairly old electrical converter. On the back it states "Do not use with battery chargers." Last time in Italy had not noticed that statement and tried to use it for charging cell phone - did not work. Does anyone know if an updated converter might be able to be used to charge cell phone batteries?

Thanks

Are you sure your charger isn't a dual-voltage type? If it says anything like "120-240VAC" on it, all you need in Europe is a plug adapter.

If not, then you want a transformer-type converter. See here:

I've never seen a cell phone (or laptop, or rechargable battery charger, etc.) that wasn't dual voltage; doesn't mean you shouldn't check, but, as Robespierre said, you probably only need the plug adaptor.

Thanks - maybe I need the transformer type. The converter I have also would not work with the battery charger for digital camera. We had to purchase a European charger in order to continue using the camera.

Most digital camera chargers are dual voltage also since they are manufactured to be used around the world.

Check your phone's input capacity as well as your digital camera's.

verona -

I'm waiting to hear the magic words: "The voltage rating on my charger is ______"

verona Mar 23rd, 2006 11:35 AM

OK - cell phone charger does state "input 100-240V" - however, battey charger for camera says 120V. So, for the phone charger I need only the plug adapter? There is no switch to change the voltage (as there is on my hair dryer). This works automatically?

Thanks again.

You will probably need a plug adapter; you can find what is required at the magellans travel site. The catalogue has a very nifty chart.

Hi verona

You only need a plug adapter for your cell phone charger.

Your camera charger needs a voltage converter.

Are you just recharging AA batteries? In that case, get a new charger.
