Continuation of discussion with Hemidall and Traveler1959

Some great replies.

Sorry I have not replied. I have been busy all week and had not time to think about what you all have said.

Yes I am solo and want to avoid working for my holiday. In other words I would prefer not to deal with the hassle of renting a car, but would do so if necessary. I dislike driving as it is stressful for me especially in an unfamiliar place. I am kind of laid back and do not want to deal with the stress of a car as a solo driver.

I do wish there was an inexpensive tour in Nafplion.

I was looking for a bit of beach experience, history, and Greek authenticity. Some posters on the message board suggested avoiding the islands because they were mostly party beach spots (minus parts of Crete and few sites on other islands (I do not want to knock them) and that doing this circle route would fit the bill).

What do you think of going from:

1 night Athens
1 night Spestes - beach (to avoid the Rick Steves Hydra suggestion)
1 night Nafplion beach
1 night Nafplion to visit Mycenae by bus (maybe Tiryns thrown in here somewhere)
1 night Nafplion to visit Epidaurus by bus (can I get anywhere else this day? i.e. beach-fishing village and get back to Nafplion)
1 Athens return
1 Athens historical sites
1 Athens to Delphi?

What do you all think? Does this work. Can you help me tinker with it to make it perfect.

Also in Nafplion and in Athens can you tell me the exact spot or name where I can catch the buses/boats I need?

Thank you very much for your time one and all.

You should reply on the thread where the earlier discussion was taking place . . .

Oh - I see you did post on that thread just before starting this new one -- why start yet another thread?

This is the third thread for essentially the same question.

My new extensive answer is on your previous thread "To Heimdall and Traveller1959". I'm not posting on yet another thread. Stop.

I still find it that it is too much hassle to travel to Spetses just for a beach experience.

Instead, you may add a day in Athens and take the bus to Cape Sounio. The Poseidon Temple is a destination in itsself, but between Athens and Cape Sounio there are most beautiful sandy beaches like pearls on a string. Some of these beaches have facilities (restaurant, showers, toilets, loungers), others have just natural beauty.

One of theses beaches (with facilities) is right below the temple and offers views of the temple. Other beaches are Legrena, Harakas and Anavissos. Check them out.

Near Epidaurus you also find fishing villages and beaches. I think somebody has already given advice about that in one of your previous threads.

Nafplio itsself has no beach that it's worth speaking of, but south of town, Karathona Beach is very beautiful.

Again, I strongly recommend a daytrip to Delphi - for me, the best excavations at all.

Thanks.

I only started this because there is no way to e-mail you and read that posting a new title was the best way to get the attention of the responders. Hence me using your names.

Where did you read that? In fact sometimes the moderators delete threads that call out members in the title.

The BEST way for someone to see your post(s) is to add them to the original thread or on to another thread where they have posted.

Well how is this idea? Does this work. That is my question?

1) Arrive Athens
2) Athens - Sight see
3) Athens - Delphi
4) Athens- Nafpilo
5) Nafpilo - Mycenae
6) Nafpilo - Epidaurus
7) Nafpilo - Cape Suounion
8) Cape Souunion - Temple of Poseidon and Beach
9) Return to Athens -
10) Leave

I just thought I would put this here if you wanted to reply here. Thank you.

Have you looked at a map yet, WL?? THere is no direct route from Nafplio to Cape Sounion. If you are still planning on Public transportation, you will take a KTEL bus back to Kifissou station in Athens. Then you'll have to taxi to one of several places (bus near Arch. Museum, Or a tram?? I don't have the transp. at my fingertips). I presume you plan to stay at that hotel which is near to Temple of Poseidon. Looks lovely, fairly pricey. Friends tell me that the Temple is best visited early AM , good light for photos, and NO tourists. If you try to do the sunset thing, you'll be sharing the view with 4-5 busloads of tour groups.
