Contemporary / modern hotels in Paris
 

Does anyone have any suggestions for a contemporary hotel in Paris for around US$100 a night? I love the looks of Hotel Bel Ami, Artus Hotel, etc. - I am hoping for something similar but a little more affordable. We most enjoy modern / contemporary minimalist chic sort of places when we travel. I am open as to the location because I realize my budget is too low to be picky on that count. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Thinking, thinking...I read something about a hotel that may fit your bill, but have to dig it up. When are you planning to travel? If it's in high season or during a major show (fashion week, etc.), then all bets are off for getting a good rate.

While I was researching hotels in Paris, I came across two minimalist style hotels-- Hotel Valadon http://www.paris-tourism.com/hotel-valadon/ for 99euro and the Select Hotel http://www.venere.com/fr/paris/select/rooms.html.en which is slightly more at 139euro. I can't personally vouch for either, but thought I'd pass on the info.

I stayed at the Valadon April 2002 with a friend. For a room with double beds the rate was 95 euros/night. It was nice & clean but I found the black carpeting to be a little disconcerting as I was afraid I'd get baby powder all over it & mess it up (for the feet)! LOL!! Breakfast is included, too; your basic oj, coffee, hot milk, baguette, croissant, butter & jams. Staff was not as friendly as I'd hoped but very professional. This is the sister hotel to the Hotel Latour-Maubourg, run by Victor & Maria Orsenne, who are known for their hospitality. Unfortunately, although they own the Valadon, they don't show up here. Oh well.

The nice thing about the Valadon, besides the cleanliness & the price, is that it's around the corner from rue Cler (and YOU know about rue Cler, don't you, dahling :))?!

I think there are a lot of Parisian hotels that are fairly modern on the inside, in fact an awful lot of them are, but at that price range it won't be chic, just minimal and simple. I don't think you'll get anything like the Bel Ami or Artus at that price range, it just isn't possible.

Some modern cheaper hotels are the Castex in the Marais, and I think the Grand Hotel des Balcons has been described as simple dorm-room like. YOu might like the Castex. I think the Select is a good choice, as that has been redone in a nicer modern style, but it won't be that cheap. Another chic, modern hotel is the Atelier Montparnasse. Both the Select and Atelier Montparnasse are a lot cheaper than the ones you name, I believe, but not around $100 a night peak price season. Here is the Atelier

The HOtel la Manufacture in the untrendy 13th has also been described as modern/minimalist, you might look at that on www.123france.com, it will still be a little more than $100. The Hotel du Septieme Art in the Bastille or Marais area is supposed to be quirky/funky around the film industry, although not exactly what you want. It's on www.eurocheapo.com

I meant to take out the Castex from my post as I think they have re-decorated, raised prices, and they aren't modern any more.

I suspect the above hotels are out of your price range, but the article in Conde Nast is interesting.
