Contemporary Italian Art

Is there a gallery district in Rome (or Florence or Venice) where one could see contemporary art? We will see some at the Venice Biennale, but wondered if there was an area, or even just specific galleries anyone can recommend?
Thanks for all the useful information I'm getting just reading all the postings here.

This is the best list I could find for contemporary art:
www.caldarelli.it (also in English)

The best museums I know are in Turin: the GAM (Galleria Arte Moderna) and the Castello di Rivoli both have permanent and termporary exhibitions.

zorba,

Thanks. I'll start there and see what else I turn up.

There's a museum of modern art in the Villa Borghese. It's where the great cafe is.

Roma has a fairly bustling contemporary art scene, fairly eveident in the Celio district (near the Colosseum). The Galleria Arte & Pensieri (maybe via S. Giovanni?) is sorta like the PS1 here in NY and worth a visit.

Thanks, Doug and smarty. Smarty, this is exactly what I was looking for.

Contemporary art - not necessarily Italian- can be found at Peggy Guggenheim in Venice. An amazing juxtaposition when you have just left the Accademia but I loved it.
