connection time in Madrid

We will be flying from Rome to Madrid, connecting to a flight from Madrid to O'Hare with a 1 1/2 hour connection time. Will there be additional screening in Madrid or will this happen before we board in Rome? If anyone has experienced this flight or a similar one recently, I would much appreciate your advice.

Not enough info to help you! What terminal will you be coming in ?/what airline are you flying from rome?/what airline are you flying to O'hare?

If this is Iberia/Iberia.. you will be in Terminal 4. Connection time is fine if arrival is on time. You will have additional screening.

Yes, it is Iberia, and connection time should be fine, I'm just concerned because they now say they require 3 hours b4 flights to US. I'm assuming we won't have to reclaim and recheck bags in Madrid. Thanks!

Did you book all the way through on one ticket w/ Iberia?

For international flights, especially those to the United States, there will be a check of carry-on luggage as just before you enter the departure "lounge" at your gate. Typically these are at the north end of the very long terminal. Allow yourselves plenty of time to walk and take the moving walkways to the gate.

Incidentally, in my last few international flights, I have found that all the moving walkways were blocked by "text-walkers" who rarely responded to any urging to move to the side. I found that finding rugby players and walking behind them was the only effective way to use the moving walkways.
