Connecting in CDG
Hi,
I'll be flying into CDG on Continetal from Newark. I am connecting into Nice with Air France. Connencting time is 1 hour 50 minutes. Question for those familiar with the airport layout: Is this enough time to connect? Does anybody know how far is the terminal where Continental lands to where the Air france domestic flights leave from? All flights are on the same ticket so I'm planning to check my luggage through. The next Air France flight to Nice would represent 4 hours layover. Is that excessive or do you think it is a better solution? Thanks! |
I would go with the four hour layover. I just did Houston-CDG-Barcelona--all on Air France--and missed a two-hour connection. If your flight from Newark is late at all, you definitely have a problem. Also--and maybe someone can explain this to me--going from 2E to 2F, we were directed to a shuttle that took forever and was part of the reason I missed the connection, BUT on the return trip, to go from 2F to 2E, we went on moving sidewalks and up an escalator and it took less than five minutes. What is the deal?

You have a very good chance to miss your connection. CDG is known for it.

When you're in Hall 4, Satellite 6 waiting for your departure and need to go to the toilet you'll have to go through security again. What kind of s..t is that. Be prepared for jokes like that!

Continental arrives at 2A. Ignore all connection signs, and go through immigration right there at 2A. After exiting immigration/customs, follow signs to walk to 2F. You'll pass through the TGV station to cross from the SW side (2A and 2C) to the NE side (2F). About 10 minutes walk.
That's the easiest, fastest and most straightforward way. Unless walking is an issue. Then, you have to take the shuttle. Since AF will put you on the next flight if you miss the connection, I'll probably stick with the 1:50 connection and hope for the best. I mean, if there's weather issue at EWR, you may be easily 4-5 hours late. |
According to www.easycdg.com, the minimum connecting time within Terminal 2 is 45 minutes. Of course, that's if your plane arrives on time and everything goes smoothly. And it may not! Still, since your flights are on one ticket and your luggage will be checked through, Air France will be obligated to put ou on the next available flight if you miss your connection. Under those circumstances, should you take a chance and book the earlier flight? Probably, but it's your call. See the maps, etc. at www.easycdg.com for lots of helpful information.

I sure wouldn't go for a four hour connection myself if I had almost two hours. I think that's plenty, and have made that connection in only about an hour. Sure, you could miss it (but I wouldn't think so unless your flight is late taking off, but you can't predict that), but I wouldn't plan for four hours for a simple connection in CDG.

We just flew from Boston to Paris to London today on Air France. Our connection time was 1 hour in Paris to catch our flight to London. I was VERY nervous, but we did make the connection. However, our luggage didn't. It's supposed to be delivered tonight to our hotel.

Thank you everybody for the prompt and very helpful replies.
My concern is that we will make the flight (like Beachgirl), but our luggage will not. We are leaving in a cruise the following day out of Monte Carlo. Due to that I rather not become separated from my lugagge. It would be a different thing if we were staying for a few days in Nice. rkkwan, If I decide to stay with the 1:50 connection I'll follow your advice as walking is not a problem for us. Thank you for the tip! |
Tim,
