Confused on which train pass
 

In May my husband and I will be traveling from Venice to Cinque Terre to Stressa and then to Wengen and finally Zurich. I am trying to decide if it is best to purchase point-to-point for Italy and then Swiss half fare card for Switzerland or a two-country rail pass. We do hope to go to the Jungfrau while in Wengen provided the weather is clear. The Swiss Half-fare card allows for 1/2 price travel to the Jungfrau as well. Any thoughts are suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Trying to figure the best fares is confusing. Thank you.

Pass is overkill -get the Half-Fare Card though. Check www.trenitalia.com for discounted Stresa to Wengen tickets. For lots on Swiss trains and passes check www.swisstravelsystem.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

Again NO to any pass - two-country or Swiss Pass.

I can't help with Italy, but on every trip we've ever made to Switzerland (about a dozen), we first crunch the numbers to see which, if any pass will be most cost effective.

How long will you be in Switzerland?

At first glance, if you're only going to Wengen, Zurich and the Jungfrau, you probably don't need one. You may not even need a Half-Fare care. I suggest you compare the cost of point-to-point tickets within Switzerland the cost of a Half-Fare Card, plus the half fare you'll pay on everything you plan to do, and then make a decision based on that.

no pass - but Half-Fare Card a definite IF doing the Jungfraujoch train - so so expensive - half-off it pays almost for the Half-Fare Card. If not then maybe not - especially if you get discounted ticket Italy to Wengen.

One pass not mentioned is the Berner Oberland Pass - valid in Interlaken/Jungfrau area and Lucerne- but probably have to do more than what previewed.
