Confused :( How to spend 7 days in germany?
Hello All
My husband and I are taking a 7 day trip to Germany, starting at Hamburg and ending at Berlin. We do not know how many days would be sufficient at each of these places and if we should include either cologne or some of the Bavarian/romantic road sites (or both ) for the rest of the days . I guess we need to decide pretty soon for the hotel reservation, so we would appreciate any advice/recommendations.

I would spend two days in Hamburg and three in Berlin (including a day in Potsdam). That leaves two days inbetween and it doesn't make any sense at all to include either Cologne or Bavarian/Romantic Road sites - for logistical reasons. Too far away.
You better spend these days exploring the Baltic Sea coast or the towns in Northern Germany between Hamburg and Berlin.

Two thumbs way up for including Luebeck.
And Potsdam is a separate city on the outskirts of Berlin. I have never been there, but surely you can find some info on Wikipedia and/or other (more) travel/tourism-related sites.
Here's a short snippet, excerpted from wikipedia
"In Germany, it has the status Windsor has in England. It was the residence of the Prussian kings until 1918."
To people old enough to remember details about World War II (even if only in history class) Potsdam was best known for the famous Stalin/Churchill/FDR conference(s?) held there.
Seems like you need a good basic travel guide book on Germany. Fodors produces those, you know. Your local library probably has at least one you can start with.
Best wishes,
Rex
