confused blondes..please explain the road tolls in Italy.

We are picking up a car from Rome airport at 1500 and will drive to Perugia. We need to reach our villa between 1730 and 1900.
Most of this drive will be on the main road and we are at a bit of a loss about paying the tolls. Can we buy a "toll" pass to use or are there compulsory stops where you pay the toll? Sounds dumb but....

There are toll booths. You stick in your credit card. It gives you a receipt and says arriverderci. You drive on. There are also cash options.

Check the website:
www.ideamerge.com/motoeuropa/ then click on "online guide". Click on "Italy" under "countries" then scroll to information regarding Italian road tolls including their costs.

The drive from Fiumicino to Perugia is 200km long and can be made in 2 hours. You'll be leaving the Autostrada in Orte and the toll is only Lit 5,500.

I think if you go into the Michelin site (www.michelin-travel.com) and put in your starting point and your ending point, you can get the routing and the tolls with costs.
